The Stephistan story reminds me of a forum I used to moderate... the admin got pissed at a couple of other moderators for not being online 24/7, banned about 50 members, ragequit, came back, banned the two moderators and demoted himself.

I was a senior mod for another forum once, I was pretty good, but didnt know how to lock threads (figured it out though)
And I just realized I kinda left that forum for about... Six months?

Before I completely dropped out of regional government, I was an admin for a region's off-site forum. I think I still am, but haven't logged in for ages other than to do cosmetic upgrades.

It did teach me a bit about moderation though.
