Just wondering if anyone has been/is in the same boat I am concerning college finances. The government estimates my family should contribute $36,000 towards my college education. I'm getting $12,000. Need based scholarships and loans are not avalible, leaving me with merit based scholarships (all of which total to less than $5000 pet college) and the high rate unsubsidised loans.where should I look next for aid? I was told by my dad about the whole "Well I worked through college and joined AFROTC, you should be able to too." ROTC is not an option. Neither is going to a community college. Any suggestions?

Go to a state school, or accept that you'll be horribly indebted.

It's nearly $30,000 to go to a state school. There's still a gap.

All depends on the majour I choose whether I'll be able to get off those loans fast or not.

Head kicks are my usual for sparring. At my size, and the speed I throw my kicks, it can be terrifying. (my friend descried it as having tree trunks flying at him)

Size can have a factor in it. Most of the larger opponents I've faced are quite slow in their kicks, where the opposite is faster.

Like your dad said, ROTC is the best bet. It is what I am doing to go to an extremely expensive schule. Other than that, there are always jobs you can take to work through college.

I refuse to do military service. Not only do I not have the streingth, coordination, nor mental capacity to do it, I refuse to on moral grounds.

I think tuition at SUNY Buffalo was like 10k/yr, no less than that. You could wait a while, until your parent's income doesn't matter? I'm not sure how that works though. It'd be several years I bet, and living on your own.

I feel your pain I was there too, broke but officially not broke enough for enough aid. Now if I had popped out kids and remained unmarried I could get a free ride or if I was a different skin color I might get the money needed... grrr. I just sucked it up and took the loans and now I will be paying them off probably until I die. The system really sucks. You can try looking up what types of state aid might be available to you. Here in New York I was able to get into a TAPS award for a few semesters... you can google financial aid for *insert state name* and see what shows up... not sure what else to say except I sympathize.

UM is $27000 (including room and board), no scholarships. OSU is $25,000, then a $3000 merit scholarship, along with nearly guaranteed acceptance. But out of my 9 schools on my list, it's #9, a backup. Stanford is my #1, acceptance is uncertain though. $60,000 a year, $25,000 merit scholarship.
Living on my own, not an option. I'm a conesour, I won't live that long without any of my fancy things.
