I find it interesting. When I was driving around the US with my husband in the truck, it was odd when people asked me "where I you from?". I would tell them and they would open their eyes wide. The following question, depending on whether we were North or South, always amused me: "where do you live now?". When I said AR, they would (in case we we're South) say that that's great and that once you cross the Mason-Dixon line, people were assholes.

That made me laugh, at times, because I lived up in MI for 2 years before and although people were more serious, I never really encountered 'assholes'. Not the way they're described in some Southern states.
