I learned street Spanish (Mexican) in my youth, and still maintain my ability to curse. Fluently.

I'm sure I simply misunderstood you, but it came across to me as if you were painting Latin as somewhat superior to other languages.

That may have come across. I was attempting to write my rebuttal in as timely a manner as possible, so I may have botched it a bit.

No worries, then. I just tend to get irate with people more quickly when it comes to things like languages, dialects, accents, etc. because it's a way for people to mask more insidious things like racism and neo-colonialist sympathies. Or stupidity.

Well, it wasn't a language of daily use but rather one restricted primarily to sacred/scholarly use. And wiki says it was certainly not spoken as a mother tongue until its revival.

Wikipedia says that it wasn't spoken as a mother tongue on such an unprecedented scale since its revival. I'd be willing to bet that there were always small groups of people who spoke Hebrew at home throughout the centuries, just like all of those offshoot languages like Ladino, etc.
