I myself hold far more value in a language that is spoken by millions than a language that is no longer spoken.

I don't get why Latin is still taught in schools. Spanish, French, Arabic, Chinese, and German are much more effective, as one can actually communicate properly in those languages. You just can't go to ancient Rome and speak it, like with the others.

Studying Latin improves vocabulary.
It makes learning other Indo-European languages easier.

I'm all for learning languages, including Latin, but most of the reasons I here in favor of it are kind of BS. These being the biggest ones. If you want to improve vocabulary in a particular language, read in that language. Period. If you want to learn an Indo-European language, learn it without having to go through the trouble of learning two. But as far as Indo-European languages go, I don't think Latin helps with Albanian, Armenian, Balto-Slavic languages, Celtic languages, Germanic languages, Greek, or Indo-Iranian languages.

It is a language few understand which make it excellent for more private conversations.

Depending on what setting you're in, you can say that about practically any language.

It has been shown to boost test scores more so than other languages which are still "alive".

That I'd need to see a source for. I think choosing to learn Latin is good because choosing to learn ANY foreign language is excellent for one's mind and career. I don't believe the superiority of one language over another, however, and that's what this smells of. If anything, Latin is normally only taught in more privileged schools, which are home to more privileged students who are more likely to obtain better test scores. And when I say privileged schools, I don't necessarily mean private ones.

It is a wonderful new medium for communication.

Often one learns more about how to speak English properly by studying Latin than they do by studying English.

One of the other main reasons I support people studying Latin if they want to. Anyone should be able to explore their interests, whatever they may be.
