60% of English vocabulary is descended from Latin words.

Of that sentence, 3/8 words are descended from Latin words. Another 3 are cognate with Latin words.

Congrats on your SAT score. Anecdotal evidence doesn't discount studies.
Grammatically speaking, I've learned more about verb tenses and how to conjugate English verbs and the differences between similar words from Latin than I ever have from English class.
