The further you depart from a welfare state, the more a society starts to resemble feudalism.

I just love accents. I'm not sure if they're accurate or just comical (read: racist) caricatures. But I'm not sure where all the distinctions in the northern English accents are.

I think you can capture the soul of any British accent by taking some time and meditating on the fact that your life is awful and boring and miserable and you will never do anything you want to do or have fun ever.

You don't need a caste system. You just can't have a purely equal society.

What do you think classes are, exactly? It is an unofficial caste system.

Not really. A caste system would require a complete lock-in to your status based on birth and societal convention.

Yar, one can transition between classes, even if it's difficult sometimes. Transitioning between castes is often a little more harder to pull off.

Hence the unofficial, it isn't set in stone or anything, and mobility is possible, but compared to a completely equal and classless society it isn't so extraordinarily far off. People being discouraged from marrying 'beneath them' for instance.

I don't mean to do it in a rude or insulting way, it's just out of my interest in English accents.

But there's quite a distinction between many northern English accents. The Liverpudlian accent is quite squeaky, Mancurians tend to put more emphasis the last letter of each word, and there are a few others too. Yorkshire is my personal favourite, as you can see.

Bloody internet.

But I would say we've moved away from that. Additionally, I would be inclined to agree with Avalar. A classless society really isn't possible unless you do it the Spartan Way, and force poverty on people rather than having everyone enjoy prosperity.

Regardless of our other views, yes, I am a capitalist. I don't believe that the rich should dominate the poor, mind you, but I do agree classes are a sort of natural thing.

So, in short, yes.

Liverpool and Birmingham I can define and imitate, to an extent. Life on Mars began my long love affair with Manchester accents.
