I believe it was Thomas Aquinas who said that some things just need to be taken on faith. Matters of religion and spirituality were, as I recall, fairly high-ranking in those departments.

Jesus mentioned to go out and make disciples of people, so I don't see a problem with converting them, but certainly, I'm not a fan of the uber-preachy types either. If anything I say now without being preachy can help someone years later, I consider it a success.
That said, the real problem is two-fold. Convincing Christians that LGBT's aren't evil, and convincing LGBT's that Christians aren't all stupid.
It's an awful task, but it has to be done in this country.

I think the best conversions are the ones where the seeker comes to his own conclusions based on there own philosophy and 'evidence'. My conversion was brought upon by a documentary 'The problenm with Atheism' and the philsophy that everything must have a cause.

The campus minister where I went to school likened the journey of life to a climb up a mountain. We're all headed for the peak, but we're all on different paths. Sometimes those paths cross and sometimes they diverge, but ultimately, we're all headed for the summit.

My conversion was quite different. I went into a church for something that wasn't a wedding or a funeral for the first time in almost a decade to talk to a priest about an issue I was having. Not only did the advice I got from him work (though not in the way I had hoped), but the great sense of peace I got when I was there left an impression. I decided I wanted to be baptized within 72 hours. It's the one decision I've ever made that I've never second-guessed. You have no idea how much self-doubt I usually have.
