I've done it as well. Not hard. Hell, I've even managed to convince some LGBTs that Christianity isn't all bad (not trying to convert them, but merely to stop judging the religion based on its more ignorant members).

Jesus mentioned to go out and make disciples of people, so I don't see a problem with converting them, but certainly, I'm not a fan of the uber-preachy types either. If anything I say now without being preachy can help someone years later, I consider it a success.
That said, the real problem is two-fold. Convincing Christians that LGBT's aren't evil, and convincing LGBT's that Christians aren't all stupid.
It's an awful task, but it has to be done in this country.
