There was a 1,000 page mark. But the mods have changed it since a topic with 1,000+ pages doesn't seem to be a strain on the server anymore.

Well, I know of a thread on the German ubi forums that spans almost 9,000 pages by now. Participated in that for a while, until realizing that most people on there were arseholes.
