I tend to write stuff that's either modern day or ten minutes into the future. Usually dark, gritty, dystopian stuff. About half the time this involves a post-Apocalyptic world, for some reason.

Soooooooooooo... what genre do you guys usually write?

I haven't written a whole lot, as in basically nothing since high school.

The premise for the NaNoWriMo novel is far future with limited flashbacks to contemporary times and a lot of references to contemporary to (contemporary plus about 500 years) through an archeological discovery.

What I would like to do is be able to write macabre well. Think Poe or H.P Lovecraft. Obviously, I lack the skill to even approach their level but if I could even get a fraction as good as the greats (or even the mediocres) in that genre, that would be good

Try reading creepypastas on the internet. Whilst they're not scary to me (no, not being an ITG as it's fairly predictable, although some videos do creeped me out), it sure can inspire you.

If I write my short-story, I think it will be about a character in my universe who is a immortal knight . . .well, semi-immortal . . ish. He dies often, visciously slaughtered, random accident, old age, but he is always reincarnated, and his forehead is marked with a symbol distinguishing it as him. He retains some memories from previous lives but they tend to fade in and out. I intend to write my short story based on a particular death of his where he was eaten by a shadow dragon.

Dragons don't have a particular moral alignment in my universe, and they don't judge eachother based on moral alignment either, any dragon will judge any other dragon by 1)Sheer power, 2)Wealth, 3)Age, and 4)Renown. This particular dragon sealed off every exit to a large city, Katar, animated the dead soldiers to guard the walls, and is now playing a viscious game of cat & mouse with the remaining 20,000 inhabitants.

Edit: Comments? (about the dragon, she was temporarily destroyed, but not by him, and she comes into the main story again 3-4,000 years later)

I haven't written anything that could be considered a story in a while- most of the stuff is for NS. That said, I am told I have a knack for them.

While I'm at it, I'm going to say I'm applying to study for a Diploma in Writing for Creative Industries next year. Should be fun.

Kind of. Actually, the narrator is Pollution. I don't say it in the actual story, but Pestilence and War got into a battle, resulting in Pestilence dying and Pollution taking his place as a Horseman. Famine is also replaced by War's brother, Conquest.

Working on it. Chronicles of Dragonthorn_TM is almost finished, so I have that tropes page worked on most.

I'm good at writing. I tend to start a lot of things and finish very few things. I'm optimistic, though, about a project I'm currently working on which is a sort of retelling of Cinderella (with elements of Rapunzel) in a Roman setting.
I've been told I have a style of writing rather reminiscent of Douglas Adams, which is not entirely a bad thing, I think. Except that I think that, on the whole, I tend to write a lot more poetry than Adams, and a lot less Vogon Poetry.
