Ranatunga appears to be of South Indian descent (*cough* WHEEZE *cough*), with black hair. His hair tends to be kept long, as he likes it that way, and he is somewhat plump, although not surprisingly so (on the other side of average, I should say). His height is average for his descent (somewhat shorter than Westerns) and his most defining feature is XXXXX his nose, which is quite a specimen of the Class VI celestial nose.

Such a wonderful nose.

He wears his black hair in a pony tail, and doesn't brush it too often, so it looks a little rugged and unkempt, and he is growing a moustache. His eyes are a very dark brown, almost black.

Sachin?

Yes, of course. I'm assuming you already have an idea of how he finds his powers, just don't expect it to surprise Ranatunga.

Since I'm currently on a major D&D kick right now, I'll create a character in the spirit of that. Of course, the only two I have available to me (i.e. I have already created and don't have to spend any real work on) are an Élan Psion (Kinetisist) and a Pixie Sorceress. Since I'm guessing you'll most likely consider even the most basic of Psionic Powers far too powerful for an RP like this (Hint: There is a low-to-mid level Power that actually allows you to take control of someone's mind and force them to commit suicide in the easiest and quickest way possible), and considering that Psionics are not even technically magical in any way, shape, or form, I'll choose the Pixie Sorceress. Besides, Pixies are a lot more fun. Élan are kind of dull and dreary (I guess literally being immortal tends to put a damper on your ability to be genuinely interested in anything).

If anyone is interested, I'll put up a D&D Character Sheet for her at the end of the post in a spoiler tag (Note: For the purposes of this RP, Pari's Familiar, is treated as a Fine-sized creature, as I don't particularly want a rat the size of a house cat).

Name: Pari
Age (Actual): 27
Age (Appears): 15
Race: Pixie (Supernatural, Fey)

Appearance):
Normal Form: A two and a half foot tall humanoid creature who looks exceptionally beautiful. Her most distinguishable feature, and pretty much the only one that would identify her as anything but a really short human, is her set of fine, silvery, semi-transparent fairy wings. Her skin is mostly flesh colored, though does seem to be ever so slightly pinker than normal humans. She has purple eyes and bright, silver hair that cascades down to the middle of her back. She also has pointed ears that can be barely seen through her hair. Due to her Pixie heritage, Pari prefers to wear simple, lightly-colored, loose-fitting, and often times revealing clothing. She is also fond of dressing in the nude, though, upon arriving in the human lands, she has found out that the humans don't especially appreciate that, particularly with her looking as young as she does, and has since refrained from doing such in public. However, she will still frequently slip off her clothes while in her dorm room for extended periods of time or to sleep.

Human Form: When using Disguise Self, Pari's usual human form that she takes as her alternate persona mostly resembles nothing more than a human version of herself. Her face is recognizably similar, and she retains her purple eyes. However, her hair is changed to a more golden blonde color, her skin is more of a very light tan, and her features are more rounded as well as having smaller non-pointed ears. She also appears to be one foot taller and, quite obviously, doesn't have any visible wings. She wears the same clothing in her human form as she does normally.

Special Powers: Pari is aware of her powers.
Low Light Vision: Pari's eyesight is far better than any human allowing her to see clearly in dim light or at night. She cannot, however, see in pitch darkness as in a cave or underground or any other area with no discernible light.
Natural Armor: Due to her supernatural origins, her skin is much tougher than normal, allowing her to resist and deflect weaker attacks while taking less damage from more powerful ones.
Invisibility: As a Pixie, Pari is naturally invisible at all times, even when performing actions. She can, however, suppress or resume this ability at will.
Spell Resistance: With her natural connection to magic, Pari gains strong magical resistance and is able to ignore most magics aside from those cast by characters or creatures significantly more powerful than she.
Dispel Magic: Tapping into her inherent power, Pari can dispel most weak and some moderately powerful magics. Though, this ability does not work on any magic used offensively.
Sorceress: Pari has recently developed an affinity for magic beyond that of normal Pixies, allowing her to harvest it in many unique and interesting ways. She has begun training these powers, though she is still not too adept at using them, giving her novice level control.

Sorceress Magic:
0th Level Spells (Cantrips):
Arcane Mark: Allows Pari to magically inscribe her personal rune or mark onto any object. The mark can be either visible or invisible. Unless Pari, herself, dismisses it, it cannot be dispelled.
Detect Magic: Allows Pari to detect magic and magical auras. With enough concentration, she can identify the location of each aura as well as the relative strength of it.
Mage Hand: Allows Pari to telekinetically move any object of 5 lbs or less within a close range.
Mending: Allows Pari to magically repair small breaks in objects.
Prestidigitation: Allows Pari to perform simple magic tricks for an hour.
Read Magic: Allows Pari to read any magical text or inscription that would otherwise be unintelligible.

1st Level Spells:
Disguise Self: Allows Pari to alter her appearance to resemble any humanoid she desires. This also allows her to visually hide her wings, though they may still be felt. She may also change her apparent hight by only up to one foot.
Identify: Allows Pari to identify the exact nature and power of magical items.
Magic Missile: Allows Pari to fire off one or more missiles of magical energy to deal minimal damage. At her current strength, she can create three at a time. Being made of force energy, it can damage ghosts or other incorporeal creatures.
Shield: Allows Pari to create a large shield-like wall of magic that hovers in front of her until ending and moves with her. It helps reduce the strength and power of physical attacks such as those from ranged or melee weapons. It also grants immunity to Magic Missile. Being made of force energy, its defensive qualities also apply to attacks made by ghosts or other incorporeal creatures.

2nd Level Spells:
Acid Arrow: Allows Pari to fire off a magical arrow of acid to deal minimal acid damage over a short period of time.
Protection from Arrows: Allows Pari to create a sphere of invisible magic energy surrounding her which makes her immune to all but the strongest of ranged attacks.

Non-Magical Special Abilities:
Small Size: Being small in stature, Pari is quicker and more agile than larger creatures. However, she is also weaker and cannot walk or run as fast.
Flight: Possessing wings, Pari can fly very quickly, up to four and a half times faster than she can walk. She is also quite adept and mobile at this, allowing her to pull of rahter complicated aerial maneuvers.
Senses: Because of her excellent eyes and ears, she can see and hear better than any normal human.

Natural Abilities:
Strength: Horrendous. Pari is so physically weak that she struggles to lift even fifteen or twenty pounds.
Dexterity: Excellent. Pari's agility and reflexes surpass even the greatest of regular humans
Constitution: Fairly good. She's generally more endurance and resilient than the average person, but she's nothing special.
Wisdom: Fairly good. She shows great wisdom for her age, but she can still be a little thick from time to time.
Intelligence: Good. Pari is quite smart and generally outclasses most other people. However, she still isn't in the upper echelon.
Charisma: Excellent. The force of Pari's personality is something impressive. If so desired, she could easily entice and persuade most anyone.

Weaknesses: Being a Fey creature, Pari is naturally weak to iron which breaches her otherwise strong natural defenses. Though, it does not impart any extra damage beyond that.

Personality: Pari is a cheerful and friendly person. It's very easy for her to make friends with others, and she doesn't like it when people are angry or sad. Pari is very optimistic and always tries to see the good in everything. She is a generally good-hearted person, being kind and considerate to those she meets, even strangers, however she doesn't hold much respect for rules or authority figures, feeling that excessive rules and regulations stifle freedom.

Having lived a very sheltered life for her childhood and being isolated from technology and human culture, Pari is often times confused by even simple things and is completely ignorant of societal rules. She frequently finds herself in a faux pas, not realizing how to fix it or even how it happened. She will also typically say or do something from her secluded Pixie society that simply makes no sense to the humans, causing her to look even stranger or more foolish. Despite her friendly nature, these idiosyncrasies usually make her somewhat hard to approach from the human perspective. However, her charm tends to win over in the end.

Being young, especially among pixie standards, Pari is filled with a sense of wanderlust and seeks to learn everything she can. She excites easily and frequently gets distracted if bored and unchallenged. However, when she is genuinely interested in something, she can pursue with almost single-minded determination. She is somewhat of a risk-taker, willing to try things even if they could be dangerous to her if it seems exciting or entertaining. However, no matter how much peril she'll put herself in, she still doesn't like it when other people are threatened and won't perform any activity that could injure others.

History: Being descended from one of the few groups of supernatural creatures still living on Earth, Pari was born in a secluded forest on an small, unpopulated island off the coast of Cornwall. She spent her early life with her family, living in the forest far away from civilization or human contact. Her life was dull and boring, stagnant even. Occasionally, there'd be a pixie or two who left to go bring a bit of news from the outside world, but she still didn't know much else aside from her island. During this time, she spent most of her time studying magic as there was really nothing else for her to do.

One day, while fiddling around with magic, she ended up casting a strange, unknown spell upon her pet rat, Whiskers. Immediately, the rodent began to glow intensely, sending out waves of magical energy. After a few seconds, the glowing ceased, and Pari was amazed that the creature now seemed to be magical in and of itself, displaying an unusually high level of intelligence while also possessing increased abilities above that of a normal rat. After a bit of research, she soon discovered that she had apparently designated Whiskers as her "familiar," whatever that meant. Either way, Pari was glad that she now had a new friend.

Eventually, after several more years of practice, Pari gained the ability to mask her appearance and, subsequently, her supernatural heritage. Against the wishes of her family, she used this new power to leave the safety of her island home and explore the world, hopping on over to the mainland and beginning her exploration of human civilization. Immediately, Pari found herself in a strange and fantastical world that she'd never imagined, a world filled with all sorts of bizarre items and machines beyond her understanding, a world of "technology."

In time, Pari grew accustomed to this new world, though she still often has troubles with some of the more complex of things. Deciding that the best way she could better learn and adapt was to go to "school" and learn there, Pari enrolled in Elfen High, masquerading as a regular human and a novice sorceress. Unfortunately, this, of course, brings her into contact with plenty of people who could discern her true identity, and it's possible that someone or many someones already have, but she didn't really consider that when enrolling. Being far too absorbed in the wonders of the human world, she didn't quite realize the danger she had just put herself in. Although, if she has been discovered, no one has said anything to her. Maybe they're carefully monitoring her or biding their time, or maybe they just simply don't care. Either way, there hasn't been any sort of action taken against her.

She has already spent her freshman year at the school, getting generally low grades across the board due to her sheltered past and lack of formal education. However, she had made many friends and has become rather popular as "The Tiny Weird Girl." Though, despite being very friendly, she also keeps everyone at arm's length and avoids any physical contact so as to prevent them from potentially discovering her true nature. Because of this reputation and because she also frequently takes Whiskers with her wherever she goes, she doesn't get a lot of romantic attention from others, despite having her disguised appearance almost as attractive as she normal is. Most people consider her just simply too strange to be a sane choice for a date.

Going into her second year of Elfen High, Pari hopes this year will be just as good as the last and also just as free from unwanted attention.

Name: Whiskers
Age (Actual): 8
Age (Appears): 3
Race: Magical Beast (Supernatural)

Appearance: Whiskers, despite being supernatural, looks completely indistinguishable from a regular rat, being that he used to be one. He's got black and white patched fur with black eyes. He is about six inches long from his nose to the base of his tail.

Powers: Whiskers is aware of his powers.
Familiar Bonus: As long as Pari and Whiskers are within one mile of each other, Pari's gains improved bodily fortitude.
Improved Evasion: Whiskers is exceptionally good at dodging and can avoid most or even all damage from supernatural and magical attacks.
Share Spells: As long as Whiskers remains within five feet of Pari, he gains the affect of any defensive spells she casts on herself.
Empathic Link: Pari and Whiskers share an empathic link with one another within a range of one mile. Though not true telepathy, they can exchange emotional feelings and desires.
Deliver Touch Spells: If Pari casts any spell that requires her to make physical contact with the opponent, she can, instead, have whiskers "deliver" the spell if the two of them were in contact when the spell was cast.
Speak With Master: Pari and Whiskers share the ability to verbally communicate with one another as if they spoke a common language. However, unless aided my magic, other creatures cannot understand what the two of them are saying.

Non-Magical Special Abilities:
Climbing: Whiskers is exceptionally skilled at climbing and can scale almost any surface that is not completely smooth.
Stealth: Being very small and quite, Whiskers is highly adept at hiding and can easily remain completely undetectable from sight if need be.

Natural Abilities:
Strength: Laughable: Whiskers is a rat. Did you really expect him to be strong?
Dexterity:Fairly Good. Though average for rats, Whiskers is still, relatively speaking, quite agile when compared with most humans.
Constitution:Decent. It's not good; it's not bad. Whiskers is just average.
Wisdom: Decent. It's not good; it's not bad. Whiskers is just average.
Intelligence: Decent. Though only average or even slightly below average when compared to a human, Whiskers is significantly more intelligent than any rat.
Charisma: Laughable. Rats really can't talk anyways.

Weaknesses: Is pretty much just a rat.

Personality: Being born of magic from a normal rat to serve as a sorceress' familiar, Whiskers isn't that complex. His biggest concern and desire is to keep Pari safe, even if he doesn't exactly have much capacity to follow through with that goal. Beyond that, he's often times a joker, pulling any prank that he has the power to set up, or trying to rope in Pari to do things he cannot. Since coming to Elfen High, Whiskers has also developed a strange fetish to occasionally steal girls' panties from their rooms at night. He apparently has a large collection stockpiled somewhere, but he won't even tell Pari where it is.

History: In the first three years of his life, Whiskers was no more than a regular rat. At about the age of one, he was adopted by Pari to be her pet. Then, when she accidentally made him her familiar, things finally got interesting for him. Being a sorceress' familiar granted him increased mental capacities and the ability to truly enjoy the world and the life he was given. Feeling just as cooped up as Pari did, when she left for her journey in the human world, Whiskers was extremely excited to see new things and places. Going everywhere with Pari, usually riding on her shoulder, he spent the next several years exploring. When the two of them arrived at Elfen High, he immediately took a liking to it, quickly establishing it as his home-away-from-home. He hopes to continue living here for many more years, mainly because it would be a pain to move his pantie horde.

RP Sample: You specifically asked me to join, so I'm assuming I don't need to provide a sample. :P

For those of you who I know were so looking forward to this, I'm sorry. I haven't gotten around to posting it just yet. I've currently mapped Pari out as a 20th level character, so cutting that down to 5th will take some time. If you are currently looking at the character sheet, then I suppose this message has become obsolete. Of course, when I post the character sheet, I'll delete this disclaimer, so I'm not sure why I'm posting this.

Olthar, 3.5e?

I'm only familiar with 4e myself. I have to spec up a new level 1 wizard, because our level 4 campaign's GM has yet again been unable to show up.

It's been badly riddled with delays, so one of our players is taking over for a new adventure or two.

---------

I'm still thinking about how indepth my character's history should be. Tomorrow I've got time.

I'm almost considering covering the entire 9 lifetimes of Ranatunga. And his current one.

Yeah. I don't really know a lot about 4e and haven't bothered to do any research on it. I guess it might just be that I'm an old fuddy-duddy who has been using 3.5e for so long and doesn't like change, but I'm perfectly satisfied with 3.5e, and I also don't feel the need to learn an entirely new edition. Hell, I don't even know all there is to know about 3.5e yet. I didn't actually know anything about Psionics until this week, which is a damn shame because Psionics are fucking awesome, especially the Psion Fist prestige class. A martial arts master who also possess psychic abilities? Fuck yeah!

I do have one question for you: in 4e, is there a system for using non-standard races, like what I'm doing by making a Pixie character? If so, I might decide to check it out. Monster races kick major ass, especially if you choose something like an Ogre Mage or a Rakshasha.

There's no specific system, but house-ruling's fairly easy, and certain monster races are provided with player race abilities (kobolds, I believe are one).

Usually, you'd just take a player race and switch some of the abilities etc., at your GM's discretion.

I've looked at 3.5e a little - it's interesting, but far too complex. I go more for things with guidelines, not 'rules', you know, like 40-50 different classes.

I'd much prefer the idea of a tabletop which makes house ruling a necessity.

Like Paranoia XP. Sadly, none of my friends are that interested. :(

Eh, house rules can be pretty nice to smooth things out from time to time. Like for instance, I did a bit of house ruling on my Élan character (replacing the -2 Cha penalty with a -1 Bluff and Diplomacy penalty, getting rid of the weapon and armor proficiencies, and adding a Timeless Body extraordinary ability). It just makes more sense that way.

Yeah, 3.5e is rather complex, but once you get used to it, it's not bad. Now, it is somewhat difficult to pick up; I'll admit to that. However, unless you're dealing with the veritable hell of mounted combat or attacks of opportunity, it's not too hard to play, actually. Though, I'm sure 4e is certainly much easier.

It is, not that my group's very serious at any stretch of the imagination.

It's filled with multiple in-jokes and running gags.

Personally though, we stick to the rules too much for my liking. I'm too used to running the show from my months with Empires at War (a really long roleplay thread I did on a different forum).

You should probably find a new group then. A non-serious group is only fun if everyone in the group is being non-serious. Though, on the flip side, a serious group is only fun if everyone is being serious, as well. It's really one or the other.

You know, we should probably stop derailing the thread now and get back on topic...Just a thought...

Heh, I'm fine with the non-seriousness. It's just our DM who needs to start anticipating it. We're all good friends outside D&D as well, which helps.

We managed to stay on track by completely railroading it twice within two days. We skipped most of a dungeon and saved a princess that was supposed to not be saved (and was supposed to be saved to begin with).

And of course we can be on topic.

Did I tell you my character enjoys D&D? :p

Now, to be serious. I need to work on my history.

Hmm.

If the Buddha plays D&D, I'd cum all over my keyboard right here and now. :P

Yeah, that's probably a good idea. My application still needs a bit more tweaking, too (i.e. I forgot to include feats and prominent skills).

1st Lifetime: (The Life of Joy)

-This life is characterized by Ranatunga's finding of the path and development of Buddhist beliefs. He becomes closer to people or beings who give him joy and who are examples of what he wants to become, and this is characterized in his death, the epitome of his life's joy. (Death in the arms of his religious teacher)

2nd Lifetime: (The Life of Stainlessness)

-This life is characterized by Ranatunga's casting off of bad karma and demonic spirits. In this life, he goes through literal and metaphoric cleaning of the body and soul, and this life ends in the epitome of this spiritual cleanliness. (Drowning in holy water)

For the Adam & Eve thing I suggest:
Image
(So, God created Adam & Eve to resemble humans in every aspect except for an implemented behavioral pattern, that makes them absolutely obedient, and that can magically passed down through the generations, so that it would spread over the whole mankind, but the devil tricked them into ending the programmation procedure before it was finished)

Also, I'm thinking about joining. Maybe an Amesha Spenta (If you allow almost godlike power), or just a Yazata (low level angelic power).

...Or something Irish to fit the Elf-theme...

(Powers are almost essentially ripped out of Elder Scrolls)
Name: Kyousuke Sakamoto
Age (Actual): 16
Race: Human
Appearance (Picture or good description):
Image

Powers (Are they aware of them?): (Yes, but not very powerful until later on)
Conjuration - He can summon other beings and the like to fight for him or items.
Illusion - Says what it says.
Alteration - Altering of what is around him or what he wants.
Weaknesses:
Multiple people, demons all due to fear.
Personality:
Paranoid, but somewhat optimistic. He isn't too close to people.
History:
-Kyousuke comes from a family of extraordinarily strong Japanese magicians who all believed in Shinto gods. They served a major and essential role of fighting against the True Fae, also being the main and strongest educators when it comes to magic. Although Kyousuke isn't very magically inclined and somehow made it into Elfen High is unknown. He's the only child of the current lineage and is supposed to be a role model for other magicians, but is more of a disappointment than anything. He always gets this odd feeling as if something is trying to grab his hand.
RP Sample:
-The New King
