I knew it wasn't this month, but I didn't know it was April 20th. Last year, one of the students got 400 signatures in support of a GSA at school, but the principal wouldn't let it happen, because it 'wouldn't provide any student benefits' (apparently, giving LGBT students some support isn't beneficial), yet later on that week, he approved a Pokemon club, because apparently, it helped students with math skills. :palm:

But yes, it most likely is a different thing...

No, for everyone. Home defense is okay. Carrying it around in public is unneeded. It makes people seem like they're paranoid or something. Add to this, paranoid people are jumpy, jumpy people with guns are hazards. Remove the cause, and Zeno feels safer all around. Thus, keep it at home.

The 2nd amendment is an unstated rebellion clause, meant to allow citizens to stand up for themselves if the government ever became oppressive. Basically, it follows from the Declaration of Independence's assertion that when a government becomes destructive of certain human rights, people have the right to alter or abolish it.

Obviously, a government that supresses human rights won't let people alter or abolish it without force. Which means that guns are necessary for a populace to defend themselves not only from lawbreakers, but, in extreme circumstances, from the law itself.

Also, in light of this, any government that wishes to begin oppressing human rights will begin by first restricting, and gradually revoking the right of citizens to own guns, often under the pretense of public safety. Once the gun owners are neutralized, the government is basically free to begin enacting whatever policies it wants (see the various government responses in the Arab world to protesters. I guarantee Zeno that if they had practically unlimited access to guns, their respective governments wouldn't dare fuck around like they have been for the last few months).

Which is why I consider the 1st and 2nd amendments to be the most important human rights guarantees ever written down. Without the ability for peaceful change enabled by the 1st amendment, along with the ability to form an armed resistance against an oppressive government enabled by the 2nd amendment, no other freedoms exist.
