If you can find a cheap course, and most importantly you have the attitude for it, the medical field will allow you to live anywhere. Ideally it will provide enough extra money for you to save and get to wherever you want to go. As I've said, though, New England is the place you want to be, specifically Vermont, New Hampshire, or Maine. Thriving medical industry, low cost of living, good weather, and virtually no crime.

If you opt for Maine I'd recommend either Lewiston or the Bath-Brunswick area. Woolwich is about 3 minutes east of Bath, and is out in the sticks if you prefer that. Bath is a nice community, though extremely expensive for housing. You do, however, get what you pay for. Just about every house in Bath is >120 years old, they're all roomy and they're built to last by people who knew what they were doing. Lewiston is the fastest-growing city in Maine, the host of Central Maine Medical Center, and all-in-all a cheap place to live with enough things to do. It's also wedged in with Auburn, which is about as large and economically capable.

If you've got the money and a decent job lined up, Portland is a very nice city. As far as crime goes, compared to most places in this country it's nothing, but about 80% of the state's violent crime occurs in it's limits(which isn't actually that much, maybe a few fights a year, some drug busts that sort of thing.) It's home to a few major medical centers and the Maine Mall, as well as Old Orchard Beach and the Portland Headlight. A few major bank branches as well. A bit pricey, but it's got all the benefits of the city with few of the drawbacks.

Brunswick is sort of halfway between rural and city. It's spread out, with architecture almost on par with that of Bath, and a very quaint main street. It's also a major college town(absolutely gorgeous campus of Bowdoin College, Maine's premier Ivy League school,) but the closure of the Naval Air Base has left some uncertainty with regards to the economic future of the town. It is a skip, hop and a jump away from Midcoast Medical Center, which lays between Brunswick and West Bath. There's the Brunswick Mall, a Friendly's, and a Regal Cinema in Cook's Corner on the east edge of town, and down Maine Street is the Tontine mall and a drag of great restaurants, as well as some decent shops. The Mill across the Route 1 Overpass hosts Flea Markets pretty regularly.

Thanks. I haven't decided on anything yet, and maybe I'm just desperate. I have a degree already, but I am definitely on the wrong field for where I live. *sigh*
