"My dreams... I've sacrificed so much for them. The word is already out!" Maven said in a proud voice. "You could kill me, but there will be others who know your treachery. The Unbidden are reasoned beings, and the whole world knows now. All they need is a home to call their own and they'll stand down. I know it, and the Lucante Grimoire had said this is true. Consult it yourself before you make a final decision." Maven said as he grabbed Dareth and flung him and Mari and rushed toward the exist running for his life.

I bought time, but how much? Maven thought as he rushed up the ladder and smashed it with the rod.

"Find you way out then on your own, find the Grimoire. If you still desire to kill me then seek me out only afterwards." Maven said as he deactivated the rod and rushed looking for the way Ayliah went.

"You are welcome here, my brethren," she commented, "There is Isokar, King of the Vampires. He will make sure to meet all your needs."

She turned to Jeremiah, and said, "I am in your debt. But excuse me..."

Nirdasil turned and ran away.

Isokar smiled ruefully and stated to the Samurai, "She's a bit distracted..."

Then, he went to the Orc, and shook his hand, saying, "It is nice to have you with us."

The Unbidden of Torkuga milled with their compatriots, catching up on news.

Jabrill followed Ayliah and looked back for a moment. "Wait, Chosen, why is Maven Auryn helping us? He tried to kill me before..." He stopped in his tracks and began to ponder a moment.

If she's with Maven, what does that mean for me?

Jabrill backed away and sprinted in the opposite direction.

"Jabrill! Where are you going! You will get lost in these tunnels!" Ayliah cried, sprinting after him, scared that he would get lost and die in these tunnels. It had happened to many people before him, and Jabrill definitely seemed to be the type to get lost.

It was a decent amount of time after the meeting with Eryeil that a familiar figure stepped out from a secret door behind one of the bookcases in the office. It was Yalij. "So the preparations have been made now all you need to do is...hehe make a convincing capture and we shall be on our way to retrieving Maven. Just tell me this...are you invested as much as I am in returning Maven to us. I know you may think me the reason behind Maven's downfall because I single handedly exposed his...situation. But, i must let you know I did it out of pure love for the one I called Father. I wished to have him cleansed and now I fear is that all I did was push him away. I must see him again, regardless of his faith in the Unbidden and convince him that they are not needed in his solution."

Yalij smiled as he put his hand on Maddy's shoulder, "Maddy you have nothing to convince me of, I believe you because we're family. I know you love Maven as much as I do. Now the only family we have now is each other, and if we don't act while we can, we won't be able to bring Maven back home alive. That's what neither of us wants. We need to hurry though, because if we're not careful it sounds like they will torture me. If they really are willing to do anything to keep me out of the way they might not care what state I am in when I am 'captured' or worse. They might just kill me," Yalij said as he put on his silvery steel plate armor of the Uncorruptible. "Maddy...I'd be lying if I said that I wasn't afraid. They were able to take Maven down, Maven of all people. Can you please stay as close to me as you are able? Just in case...I might need help." Yalij asked with a slightly desperate tone of voice.

"Alright Maddy if that happens... may the just God watch over us both." He said as he gave Maddy a hug and went toward the West Narai Riverbank where his squad of Uncorruptibles awaited him. He suspected that this would be a very long day and he waited patiently for the Guards sent by Eryeil to accost him.

West Narai Riverbank

Yalij Dontoth wore his Ceremonial robes of the Uncorruptible as he bowed before the passerbys. Yalij's sharp husky ears listened carefully for any sound out of place, his dog tail low and showing his deep fear as he tried to mimic Maven and shield his fear with a smile standing with his head held high with pride. He bowed to the healers passing by happily looking at them with his pure blue eyes. He seemed to be in a state of tenseness only noticable by his squadmates who seemed to be really worried as Yalij knew what would await him. It was almost like clockwork at lunchbreak, Yalij smiled to his squadmates and spoke to them with his enthusiastic childish tone of voice.

"I'm going to go pick something up near the Barigon Center. You all can head off without me to the Government district to get something at the Griffon's wing." Yalij said as he waved them off with a smile.

"If you say so Captain, but you know if something's up..." Deygan said with a concerned look.

"Nothing to worry about, at ease and go get something to eat or you'll end up wasting all the time gawking." Yalij said with a shrill nervous laugh.

"Okay Captain." Deygan said as he went ahead to the Griffon's Wing, leaving Yalij exposed and vulnerable. He walked through an alleyway with his hand upon his sword breathing deeply to calm his nervous mind.

Just don't fight Yalij, let them take you, and pray they won't kill you anyway... he told himself repeatedly.

A group of imperial guardsmen arrived just as Yalij had expected as he gave them the usual greeting of the uncorruptible with his courage mounting up.

"Hail, Good officers of the Law. I am Knight Captain Yalij Dontoth of the Order of Uncorruptibles." he said with his bravery shining through. "How can I help you? Are you perhaps looking for something?"

"Yalij Dontoth? Just the man I was looking for. You're to come with me. You're under arrest by order of the High Council."

"On what charges?"

"Corruption. Come with me." Captain Valleyan said with his hand on his mace.

"I will not resist." Yalij said with his hands raised to show his harmlessness.

"So be it." The captain had the men grab Yalij roughly and pulled a brown sack over his head and bound his hands behind him and dragged him to a hovercraft and drove him to the High Council building as they dragged him to the lower Cloisters of the building.

They took him out and threw him in an empty room and tied him to a chair and pulled the sack off, his blue eyes trained ahead looking at Eryeil Nendis as he scanned for Maddy.

"Where am I?" Yalij asked with fear in his tone of voice.

"No one can hear you Yalij Dontoth. We will find the corruption within you and we will prove once and for all that you are to be cleansed by the blade of the Just God." Eryeil said as she had the guards pull out blunted weapons and threatened Yalij.

"I'm not corrupted!" Yalij said desperately looking for Maddy. "Someone help! by the Mercy of the Goddess, please!"

After Yalij had left discreetly, Maddy continued on with her normal every-day duties up until it was about time for a good sized lunch break. She had been very efficient in signing the documentation and reading up on the legal matters of the city due to her newly initiated chronological organization system. Walking with two of her personal guard one being the captain of the soldiers she had saved personally in the grenade explosion, and the other one that had found her nearly dead in the forest on that dreadful day. They both had saved her life and had been rewarded for their service with promotion and wealth. It was merely a symbol of gratitude but Maddy used it as a way to show the city guard and the military that bravery was honored highly, which also meant that the expectations placed upon them to be of regal character increased as well.

The whole scheme of alienating Eryeil and the Uncorruptables was coming together perfectly. Though she could not bear to put Yalij blindly through the whole ordeal, but she wieghed how effective the plot would actually be with him being killed as a result of Eryeil's interrogation versus not being killed. What truly decided the decision was how heavy it would be on her heart for another innocent to be considered dead at her hands. "Yalij...I'm sorry but you might have to be a martyr on this one...Ugghh. Why? Truly it should be me that is interrogated. Ah! There they are his personal gaurd so it seems that he must have spared them from the plot." She thought before stepping on up to his guard with a falsified expression of worry made slightly easier because she did in fact fear for his life. "Where? Where is Yalij Dontoth? I had hoped he would have been with you. He said he might join me for lunch today. Deygan, I hope...Oh dear...don't tell me. Did he send you here alone? If he did you better go find him, FAST! I have received reports of an underground anti-corruption organization that might be targeting the Uncorruptables. Oh, dear! Quick! Search for him I can't stand to lose another close one. I'll join you in the search just let me change into my armor back in my office and..."

"Yalij Dontoth? Corrupt? BAHAHAHA! You might as well call Nenya a corrupt one. Yalij's more innocent than Maven was and that's saying something." Deygan said with a deep belly laugh. "This is probably a deep misunderstanding. We're uncorruptibles, we would have noticed something from Yalij. He's not... where is Yalij anyhow?"

Lower Cloisters
High Council Building in Caltris

The shouts of pain could be heard as Yalij Dontoth was beaten to the ground. He was bloodied and bruised on the ground as angry tears of pain streamed down his eyes.

"I swear by Maven Auryn's heart that I am not corrupted. Please... by the love of all that is holy, have mercy! Have mercy!" Yalij shouted in pain as he was lifted from the ground again for another beating and he could hardly see from his left eye. It was hazy with blood and he had withstood far too much.

"Damn it captain, he's going into shock! Wake him up!" A man poured water over Yalij's face and he could feel consciousness slipping away.

"I....am....not... corruptible." Yalij uttered as he passed out.

"Exactly. Where is Yalij? Haven't you seen him. No, of course not...regardless of your belief of him being corrupt or not does not change the intent of those criminals that might have abducted him. Your lack of action into the matter will not affect mine. I will not lose another family member because of your inactivity. Know this that since it is your duty that Yalij be safe I shall hold you accountable for what might happen. For your sake let's just hope you find him before I do. Farewell, Deygan, I believe you'll have a five minute head start."

"You heard the High Chancellor! Everyman go find Yalij! That's an order!" Deygan said as they fanned out and went on the lookout for Yalij. It was clear that by Maddy's tone, she was very worried, and Deygan could pick up that perhaps she knew more than she was letting on.

"High Chancellor... what do you know about the ones who abducted Yalij? Do you know anything about them? We need to find Yalij quickly, because if not he could be killed by these whackjobs. Yalij is a brilliant fighter but I have a huge doubt that he'd just separated us like this. Yalij knew he was being targeted. Why?" Deygan said with a suspicious tone.

"When looking at old dated documents of criminal cases in Caltris after I took office, I found and read many disturbing accounts of citizens being abducted. So I discovered that the city guard put a few soldiers on that detail to investigate the crimes further in the past. It seemed that each of them throughout the investigation claimed to have experienced "disturbances" that prevented them from working the cases. Those disturbances when pieced together formed what looked like one single organization bent on terrorizing public officials. Now, you see why it became a common theme for the uncorruptables including myself to have a unit of guard-escorts. Yes, I know that I to can put up a good fight but, to travel alone the dark streets of Caltris at night..? This city is nowhere near the safety it is praised for. At least in this day and age. So to find Maven, we will have to look through tons of legal texts to find out their base of operations or...run off of a hunch I have."

Yalij could feel the consciousness returning to him as he felt blood all over the floor. He thought for a moment that perhaps they had finally decided to be kind and end the torture by slitting his throat because he could taste the blood in his mouth as he choked for breath, but the more he realized the weight was actually upon him it became apparent that the blood on the floor was not his own. He was also underneath the body of another imperial guard whose corpse lie on top of him, and he heard another scream as the Uncorruptibles cut through the imperial guards with murder in their eyes. Yalij struggled to get to his feet but his leg was broken from the brutal torture he endured. He tried to choke out a reply but nothing came out but breath.

S-stop! NO! What are you doing?! Yalij thought as he became horrified by the mad carnage before him.

"...and that hunch makes me think the lower cloisters would be a prime candidate for the headquarters of this organization. Why? Well a secret organization needs a secretive place close to its target right? What better place than a basement right under our feet that hasn't been used in years!?" she said with great ease because she had actually been investigating a criminal organization that had been stealing product from the local shopkeepers but, that was a different matter entirely, perhaps even a thieves guild...

"So, Deygan shall we look in the cloisters? Or look into stacks of heaping---paper---documents?" Maddy said with long awkward pauses to try and coax Deygan into going to the lower cloisters because, she knew it would take about a week at the best to discover a decent amount of evidence to put together falsely.

It's rather big, and it could be completely undisturbed if there's the right rooms chosen for secrecy, we should make haste. Yalij is powerful, but he's not immortal." Deygan said as he rushed ahead to the lower cloisters in search of Yalij.

Yalij Dontoth lie exhausted and unable to move among the corpses with the taste of blood still all over him. He reached for a shield and dropped it as it clanged and Yalij tried hard to make noise to call for help as the rest of the Uncorruptibles massacred the imperial guards and, of course, Eryeil Nendis just allowed it all to happen and held her pistol in hand as she went back to her office in a huff.

This isn't at all going as planned! This is horrible... She thought as she rushed ahead and passed Maddy and Deygan.

Maddy took a look at Yalij and began to tear up but wiped the tear away before it could form into a collective mass. "No. I shall not falter here. What is this horrid place...I never..." she cut herself off as she saw familiar faces from the council including Eryeil Nendis. "...expected the uncorruptables to be involved in such...practices...Deygan, can you get Yalij to safety. I fear I am about to make the most dreadful decision and I fear that Yalij need be taken very far away from this place perhaps even to the border of the human kingdom might be safe refuge if I make the call I am contemplating now. Deygan can you guarantee his safety?" She looked at Deygan with the most stern eyes anyone besides his mother had ever given him.

"I will High Chancellor. Yalij is my friend and I will guard him with my life." Deygan said as he picked up Yalij who wordlessly thanked him and looked desperately at Maddy as he tried to speak but the pain of having to be forced to drink shards of broken glass tore the inside of his throat to bits and he was too exhausted to speak. "What shall you do High Chancellor, so that I know how to protect Yalij?" Deygan asked as Yalij reached over to Maddy and gave him the blood stained letter that Maven had given him.

Ever Faithful Yalij,

Never lose hope. There will always be a time when we believe it is lost, but just when we find outselves in our darkest hour, it comes the like the first glimpse of dawn, and oh how it surprises us when it comes. Maybe a little laughter will cure the corruption or perhaps the sweet taste of lemon drops.

He gritted these words out "Don't....lose....hope Maddy.."

Maddy replied before reading the letter saying, "Just get him to the southern coast. That should be far enough." Maddy then began to read the letter. "Hope...laughter...lost. Ha! Maven you always were one to leave small comforting messages but, I am afraid...no confident these words are now meaningless. Don't worry I will cleanse this city of its corruption. I will make it so that you shall return. Darkest hour...indeed...hah! haa haaa...hahaha!!" Maddy let out a scary series of laughter aided by the deep pitted corruption within her while turning to the other guards nearby and gave the order, "Kill them! Kill them all. Every single last one of the Uncorruptables...You saw what they have done here. Now, Deygan...you better hurry and get out of this city...I believe Yalij is...well..." she said before drawing the bow she had been given then proceeding to reach a destination where she could find a messaging system to broadcast the order to the entire military of the city. "Hurry Deygan...the order goes live in five minutes."

"Five minutes?! We'll never get out that fast in time! Yalij...." Yalij looked angry at Maddy and said no words and Deygan ran for his life with Yalij in tow.

"They're going to kill all of us? Why?! Why is Judge Madrine doing this?" Deygan cried out as he took a boat on the West Narai riverbank and covered Yalij with a tarp and threw his uncorruptible armor off with a tear in his eye, dumping it into the river along with what was left of Yalij's. All that hard work of maintaining a completely clean criminal record, of going through all the training courses, of doing every last exercise and all the reading of the canticles and holy codices and archives. All of which would be for naught. They were all going to be massacred, and for protecting their own. This made Deygan wreaked with heavy sobs as he took the river and tried to push quickly to head in a shortcut to the Tabrilian coast.
