Hello everyone! Regnum and I are taking a survey to get accurate information as to the Political Compass of each party in the NSG Senate. If you'd like to help, please take the time to add your Political Compass scores to this survey.

Hello! I'm from the National Centre Party, a growing centrist to centre-right political party. Upon discussion with many members of our party, we'd like to propose a merger with your party because your platform is similar to ours. Also, as an official political party, we could become more influential if we were united.
Economic Left: -9.13; Social Libertarian: -6.26

I'll give my endorsement to this merger. I'd very much like to see the Reform Party as a recognised party.

I wouldn't presume to speak for the party as a whole, but as its temporary leader I would find it difficult to accept a merger with the NCP. It is by definition a centrist party, while Reform was specifically established to represent the Right, between the centrists, libertarians, and ultra-conservatives. Reform also emphasises the market and decentralisation, whereas the NCP platform strikes me as more, let's say, 'institutional'. Also, I made our position on the republic/monarchy issue deliberately ambiguous, whereas 'republicanism' seems to be the NCP's lodestar. There would have to be significant changes in the platform, swinging it definitively to the PC's Right at the very least, for it to align properly with Reform. Right now this seems like it would be a marriage of convenience - however, all that said, considering the state of things, that might not necessarily be a bad idea.

Both of our objectives are similar: stop the far-left from taking over the Senate. It's a damn shame that a commie is PM.

I'd agree on that much at least. But I'd like to think that we're both more than an anti-Communist vanguard (and besides, whatever the CFE's calling itself these days basically fills that role - although they've decided to go all Aurentine language on us now). Indeed, I'm sure everyone on the Right (except the PCs, it would seem) would agree with you on that.

The PC's decision is more in line with Bismarkian Realpolitik, we ally with a left coalition to provide a balance that will stop them from introducing fully socialistic policies. We are more pragmatic than idealistic.

The NCP, in NS terms, IS the center-right party. We are soon establishing partylists in the NCP to mark members of different factions, so you could form the more right-leaning faction of the party.

The General Secretary might appoint someone from our party (maybe Namor can do it) to be a reporter for The Spectator.

You need not appoint somebody to officially represent your party, though you may; you can all simply write articles reflecting your own opinion. If you wish to have somebody write for the party as a whole, however, go ahead.

We rather choose someone to write for us. NCP is a centrist group with differing opinions since we mete to balance everything here.

Well enough. I'd like to note however that you can have a reporter representing the party's official views and still report as an individual giving your own opinion.

I was very happy to find this party, because none of the existing right-wing parties really fit my beliefs. The Progressive-Conservatives were too socially liberal, the Classical Monarchists had no clear economic policy, the National Imperialist-Freedom Party seemed too fascist, and the various libertarian parties were, well, too libertarian. I was on the verge of starting my own Christian democratic party when I found the Reform Party, which delightfully combined ordoliberalism, a progressive-conservative welfare state, and social conservatism.

Suffice it to say, I'd like to join.

Angleter, thank you very much for the telegram. I assume your Roman Catholic beliefs contributed significantly to the Party's platform? :)

Welcome! Certainly my Catholicism - and Christian Democratic thought in general - was an influence. However, we are of course accepting of members of all religions.

What do you guys think of this?

Copyright Act

I support peace in Israel and Palestine. The governments and people in power on all sides are an absolute disgrace, and their unwillingness to pursue peace is a disservice to the people they are meant to be serving. The status quo is not simply untenable; it is unquestionably unacceptable.

Looks alright. Just a couple of things, though - seven years seems a little on the short side, and the system of fines and damages seems to suggest that people who don't incorporate themselves as a business, but all the same start churning out online copies for free, go unpunished.

I have changed the term back to 10 in the coffee shop. The second point, yes, that is correct, as long as they are not profiting from it.

Righto. Piles of laws before the Senate right now, so let's go through them:

Limiting Legislation Act: Advised vote against. 90%+ of this Act is great. However, it enshrines in law "freedom from religion," which pretty much in itself defines Aurentina as a laicist state and gives governments free licence to perform an iconoclasm on anything vaguely related to the public sector or purse.

Anti-Slavery Act: Advised vote for.

Civil Treatment Act: Advised vote against. A horrible proposal with an extremely euphemistic name. Essentially, if you vote for this you're voting for the establishment of a nationalised prostitution industry.

Sexual Industry Regulation Act: Free vote. At least this one would keep prostitution in the private sector. That is its sole redeeming feature, but if you feel it's the best we can hope for, then by all means support it.

Provisional Criminal Code: Free vote. It's 'provisional' (read: useless after a fortnight's time or so) and promotes indefinite detention, but otherwise inoffensive.

Many problems with this bill:
  • Definition of a computer program (10,000 lines) is arbitrary
  • Copyright term is too short (should be 20+ years at least, matching the term of a RL patent)
  • Copyright infringement for non-commercial use should be illegal (how exactly do you expect film and music studios to make a profit if only one person purchases their works and then distributes them to everyone else non-commercially?)

I wrote a World Assembly resolution establishing an international copyright system a while back. I suggest you take some pointers from there.

Also advised vote nay. It's "un-repealable" nature goes against the principle of parliamentary sovereignty, which I assume exists since we don't have a constitution nor a robust system of judicial review. It's also not written all that well.

Also advised vote for, though it is unfortunate that it defines slavery but not involuntary servitude.

I'm voting against, personally.
