Quite unheard of, unless maybe in the Vatican Museums.
Of course you can't enter a museum in a swimsuit... but you aren't allowed even to walk on the street in a swimsuit. Swimsuits are restricted to beaches.

I am, of course, perfectly in support of public nudity if people wish. I wouldn't, but why would I care about others?

I can understand them turning somebody away for wearing a thong bikini or something like that not appropriate for street wear, but a "too short" skirt? That sounds just a mite silly. and not a bit snooty.

Of course, as with any type of business (even state run) they have the right to set whatever dress code they wish (but i think you have to get cleared for nudity). Hence the slogan "no shirts, no shoes, no service."

If some guy at a museum came up and said they were refusing me entry for wearing to short a skirt I think I'd probably assume it was someone taking the piss and try and go in anyway. What a ridiculous rule.

Dress codes should be stricter. We should ban both sexes from wearing t-shirts, sleeveless shirts, tank tops, short skirts, shorts, etc. in public. Long pants and long sleeves or dresses only. And what's more, shoulders, bellybuttons, etc., should never be exposed. That's the only fair way to do things.

Moreover, laws should be made mandating that people wear socks. I mean, who wants to see people's bare feet? Except for creepy foot fetishists and the like.

My mother was angry and asked to see the manager, who upon coming, told her pretty much the same thing the guide did, and my cheeks were burning. We ended up going back home. I was incredibly pissed!

Do you think NSG that enforcing dress codes in attractions like museums, is fair to the tourists?

They don't allow monokini in museums.

I'm glad we agree on the immorality of wearing clothing that doesn't completely cover your body!

More seriously, however.... technically they're allowed to refuse entry to anyone they like for whatever reasons they want, although if those reasons are unjustified they can expect repercussions for it. A dress code doesn't seem unjustified, although I question exactly how someone wearing a short skirt could threaten a museum exhibit... unless the staff's day care center is in the basement, and the floors are made of glass.

Well museums are open to the public. The White House did tours. They may still do that. Since it's not a museum I think they actually charged for that. I am sure mini skirts were ok during the Clinton Administration.

You could always protest. Protests are fun. Get as many of your girl friends, hell guy friends too into realy skimpy bathing suits and sun tan on the steps of the museum with signs about their unfair dress code. If you get kicked out, you can always go to the nearest public side walk.

Or you can go the opposite route and got in Victorian costume. Bonus points for fainting in the middle of the tour. :)

As a resident of San Diego, I find this report disturbing and, assuming it is true, I am outraged. I do find the report a bit hard to believe, however.

I have never heard of a dress code at the San Diego Museum of Art or any of Balbao Park's attractions, let alone San Diego attractions in general. To the contrary, San Diego is known for having a very relaxed approach to dress. A few internet searches have turned up nothing regarding this new dress code.

I am very sorry this happened to you, Minnas. If there is anyway you can substantiate this claim, I will gladly write to the relevant authorities in support of your complaint.
I quit (again).

I've been trying to see if there's any evidence on their web-page that there's indeed, a dress code enforced there. But there's nothing. When I arrived there, a museum employee told me of the new regulations and then, when my mother asked to see a supervisor, the supervisor only said the same. I was dressed inappropriately to enter the museum.

I'll call them and check if they're saying it to the people interested in going. I can tell you the web-page doesn't state anything about dress codes active.
