Thats some kind of joke right. Yeah its our past and we shouldn't forget it but why do idiots like you always need to bring it up. This was just talking about the German people, dont start bring up Nazism.

Because your overreaction is hilarious to watch, mostly. The German Region wrote:Yeah its our past and we shouldn't forget it but why do idiots like you always need to bring it up.

No, it's quite funny. I usually return the salute. The German Region wrote:Yh we overreact but thats because we hear it every single day. Okay yeah talk about it but when people from other countries come up to you and give the Nazi salute and shout phrases associated with the Nazi stae then it doesn't become funny anymore, it becomes very offensive.

Really, the Germans never struck me as angry people. They're very kind and make excellent hosts and companions at parties - maybe a bit lacking about strict formality, but who cares?
And also if you can't speak German, you'll find a lot of people who speak some other languages (English, French and Italian are quite common).
I'm not saying we're always angry. Its just a stereotype people have given us. I'll admit the German language is very gutteral and people often mistake you saying something angrily when your not.

Dutch is a LOT more guttural. I know, I live near enough the Dutch border.

Just ignore such posts. Talking about Germans, educated people think of von Goethe first, before mentioning the Nazis. Those who only watch war movies and play FPS games cannot be expected to know that the German culture and science are among the cornerstones of the European identity. Not to mention being a place where modern science thrived, with von Siemens' contributions to telecommunications and public transportation, or von Liebig's and Thiele's to chemistry. Schiller, Nietzsche, Fichte, Staudinger, Beckmann ... that is also Your past, and I hope, Your future too. And there's no "angry Germans" stereotype -- although it varies from person to person everywhere, I learned first hand that German people are generally very nice. The only stereotype about Germans that I know of, is being obsessed with perfection, in industry, engineering, art and pretty much everything else. But, I see that as being a "good stereotype."
