It's important to realize that man and woman can never be "equal", per se, because they are inherently different and they have their strengths and weaknesses, and I believe these are crucial to a functioning relationship. A man is always going to be better at some things than a woman, and a woman is always going to be better at some things than a man. This kind of attitude of "I will do this and you will do that" allows for two people to psychologically "interlock", so to speak, and enables them to form a close bond. If two people were exactly the same, they would just be living side-by-side and their interactions would be very limited and bland.

With that said, it's impossible to judge "equality" as an umbrella description for a set of qualities. However, I'd very much prefer to have someone who is equal to me in various specific areas, such as morality, religion, and education. I'd like someone who shares the same values as me, and the same goals as me. Because ultimately, a husband and wife function best when they think as one unit, looking out for what's best for themselves, each other, and the family as a whole, simultaneously.
