It was passed down over the course of time through the various native peoples to the Mayans. Now, because the Egyptians had a long-term maintenance contract, when Pope Gregory issued the new calendar in 1585, an update was sent to the Mayans. Unfortunately, the Spanish shipping service that was supposed to deliver the update mistook the instructions and conquered all of Central and most of South America.
