In response to someone complaining that they don't get NationStates and find it boring.
Dread Lady Nathicana wrote:Missing? A sense of imagination perhaps, a vision of what you might like to do with your nation, what sort of fun you might like to have. I figure we have ample 'reality' in every day life. Most folks game or participate to either get away from that, or put their own spin on it, I think.

There are many different ways to interact on this site, whether it's just play the game through the choices of issues, submitting ideas of your own for us in-game even.

Role-playing is just one method, and that doesn't seem to be up your alley, by your comments. If you think it's all pointless and there's no worth to it though, I'd suggest you haven't really read through a good many threads. It can be separate universes - that's the beauty and challenge of a purely free-form RP venue. No one is required to acknowledge everyone else, you get to choose who you play with, and what you do.

There's the entire regional Gameplay aspect that has it's own community and methods of play within it. Getting into methods and means, would take a good portion of the day to explain - needless to say, there's a great many players who enjoy it.

There's working within mainly as a government - with the Security Council, and World Assembly membership, and all the debating and discussion that goes on there as well. You can take part in how rules and regulations affect those member nations, and the compliance that's inherent in membership.

There's even just mucking about with socializing, in Forum 7. Or discussing and debating ideas, events, etc in the General forum.

Basically, when you get right down to it? You get out of this game what you put into it. You find what works, what appeals, what doesn't, and you go from there. It's come a long ways from when it started just over 10 years ago, and it may not have everything you're looking for or wanting ... however there is a lot to explore and check out if you're so inclined.

No one was obsessively texting/calling to find out where we were.
We were not under the eagle eye of a parent.
We did not have structured activities and play dates.

We took our roller skates, our bikes, our bats and balls and gloves, and we played, and NO ONE ENDED UP DEAD OR KIDNAPPED OR RAPED.

Just saying.

Oh, France.

Post-Cold War spending cuts really took a toll on the French Foreign Legion's military capability.

In reference to the fact that, until 1990, the French Army had mobile field brothels for their forces.

From one of my fave NSGers, in a TG:

Who cares about sinister? When the Great Satan Barack Obama leads the us to enact the Great Liberal Conspiracy, overthrowing the existing order and declaring Christianity, heterosexuality, and capitalism illegal in favor of a New World Order involving Satanic Atheism, buggery, and communism, the Gay Illuminati will take over complete control of the personal sexual lives of every good heterosexual, making them get gay married and turning their children into gays. It doesn't matter if the name is unloved, we'll have complete control.

Why does it have to be safe? If you aren't the one engaging in it, what's it to you?

Unsafe sex increases the odds that the population will have a high percentage of carriers of STDs. Since I like to have sex with other humans, and I dislike rashes and boils and immunosuppression, I prefer that my fellow humans take steps to protect their naughty bits in anticipation of my future desires.

Unsafe sex also increases the odds of pregnancy. From my highly scientific sampling of my six close friends who have children, pregnancy causes one to talk about nothing but gluten-free formula and Signing Time videos for babies, and also leads to blanket refusal to come over at play Mario Kart at 2:15 am. I therefore benefit tremendously from increasing safe sex and reducing pregnancy rates, because people with babies do not sufficiently entertain me.

Risky sex practices such as sex whilst driving increase the odds that I will be rendered a greasy smear on the sidewalk by a driver who was too focus on receiving road head and not focused enough on remaining safely within his lane.

Short version: I wish for my fellow humans to maintain good personal health and show reasonable care with their bodies and the bodies of those around them, because this makes it easier for me to get ass and have fun.

WHAT?! You mean your nation might actually have to pass your own laws and protect prostitutes without help from the World Assembly? That's a biiiiiig challenge. I mean, why should any of us ever be different from other nations in any way shape or form? We should all just be cookie cutter nations, one exactly like another.

You're a mod, you'll get used to it. Eventually it works out into dispassionate unfeelingness. We'll even share a few jokes. I mean, there'll never be friendship, comraderie, the stuff you used to know, but you'll be able to pretend it's there. Maybe on a particularly warm night, when the summer wind's blowing a fresh breeze into your room, you'll be able to stare at the screen, and maybe dimly remember something that was more than you had now. Something akin to actual feeling, emotion.

But no. It's an illusion. And that night you'll cry yourself to sleep, and wake up the next morning knowing that you are no longer a child. Now you are a man.
