Then again, due to the lack of contrasting /i/ phoneme you might as well argue that the phoneme is actually /i/ but just realize with a long off-glide in every context.

It is either flim or fillum.

It's a film. Your "modern understanding" is your subjective view of the definition, which isn't really a "modern understanding" of films at all.

actually my definition has been around for quite a while, and it is literally impossible to make a subjective review of something.

I was hoping halfway through the movie that HAL would kill the bloody astronauts and destroy the ship just so I wouldn't have to watch it anymore.

No one gives a fuck what definition either of you two used - the definition that's been used in this thread without the need for redefining the shit outta it is sufficient.

Seriously, this is as bad as calling dubstep "not music." Or insert genre "not music."

Let us just agree that it is, technically, a film. Just a very very very bad film that no sane person should have to sit through.

Hell, I would rather watch Day of the Triffids than 2001. And Triffids is not a great movie, but it at least has a coherent plot and some character development.

Because you think you have the rights to make moving pictures a movie and not a movie. Even an experimental movie is still a movie.

For crying out loud...

Just because a movie raises more questions than it answers does not make it impossible to understand.

I have another one that is supposedly such a great film, also by Kubrick, The Shining(1980). Could Kubrick have messed that story up any more than he did. Personally I think Kubrick was over-rated as a director. I liked 3 maybe 4 of his films. The rest were either mediocre or crap.

Your "modern understanding" is bullshit. Film literally means motion picture or movie. So yes it is all of those.

Khihaizi wrote:To be honest, like the Godfather, Donnie Darko, Cube and other such films I have the idea that the majority of people who praise it actually find it boring as fuck but just say what they are expected to say about 'classics'.

A lot of people who praise it are of course sincere. But reading the reviews the films get on a lot of sites I'm really like 'Well, didn't you completely miss the point and just say crap to justify that you are saying what you have to say.'

Same with Bach or reviews of StarCraft II really.

How can a movie that came out in 2001 be called a classic? :eyebrow:

the definitions of words are always subject to change... the common IDEA of what you expect to go see when you walk into a movie, A PLOT, CHARACTERS, DEVELOPMENT OF THOSE CHARACTERS, COHERENCE, are not present

because it was shot with a camra, it is by definition a film, but the qualities of such do not make it an acceptable film to watch

you happy with this explanation or should i use smaller words as to not have it go over your head considering this is the 4th fucking time i explained this
