I bet that I can guess what the problem is. The college he is attending is making him take an economics course(or he wanted to take one), and the class does not line up with his view of how the economy works. This difference is the source of the conflict.

c) this was a test for younger students who were specifically assigned to read that paragraph and then sit an exam to test their memory of the information contained in that paragraph. Rather than it being a test of someone's general knowledge of Wallenstein.

I dunno, you hear about this kind of thing from time to time with history textbooks in high school and whatnot. Of course, I would usually make note in the test that our textbook gave this answer, and that it was contradicted by that answer from another source that I would specifically name. In that case, I was showing that I did enough to expand my knowledge independently, but also that I was paying attention to the material given in class.

It might be style preference, but I would have run with "...helping the school pay for the salaries of shitty tenured teachers." instead. This time you used a possessive apostrophe s correctly, but the rest of the phrase was just wonky.

Although that still ignores the part where a well-funded education system would keep such sentence abominations off the internet and where tax money is not stolen from us, but used on our behalf for things like infrastructure, education, health care, law enforcement and government agencies that ensure the safety of our food and various products we use on a day to day basis (among many other things). Additionally, the suggestion that if you wanted to live in a country without taxes, this is possible. You might find that such countries are not very nice places, however.

I'm sure there are some school districts that suck. But the existence of crappy schools (or crappy teachers) does not mean that schooling is inherently crappy or that all teachers are dictatorial jackasses.

There's also a difference between using up class time to be pedantic, and discussing the subject with your teacher after class.

Six years later is a pretty funny meaning for "literally when" which implies "immediately". Various indicators didn't start showing Somalia improving until 1997 and a lot of things didn't really start getting better until they'd started up some regional and coalition governments in the 2000s. Of course, the country is still torn up by war and its neighbours have over fished and dumped toxins in the waters it can hardly control...
