Hmm, I was in Indiana for a while but that was years ago. Has it gone downhill that badly since I left?

Depends on how close to Kentucky are you. Up north it's not too bad.

Unless you're in Gary, it sucks bad there.

And Ohio needs to be cut in half. South of Columbus is the bible belt. The way it works here is, Northern Ohio and Cincinnati are pretty decent, southern ohio is where the hicks and bible beaters live.

Interesting, though not likely.
Where he has Oklahoma and Louisiana going seems off.
The Economy/people of Oklahoma is nothing like the Desert areas out west.
Also Louisiana differs greatly from the rest of the South.
It seems much more likely those two states would seek to be joined with Texas.

I lived in OK for a while and they despised Texas.

Just look at the college football rivalry!

But they get along fine with Arkansas, and like that state and Louisiana they grow a surprising amount of cotton.

Really, eastern OK is a southern state and western OK is a western state.

One, the US is not a bunch of nations united into one government. It is a single nation. None of the states (with the possible exception of Hawaii) have a native language of their own.

Two, the US does not allow states to secede. The most devastating war in American history was the Civil War, when several states tried to secede. And that was when the US military was divided along state lines. If a number of states tried to secede, at best they would retain their National Guard forces, while the regular armed forces sided with the federal government.

Good point, I forgot about that

Well the government says you cannot secede, but people can still do it despite the law. People have been breaking the law for years. Just cause the government says one thing, doesn't mean the people cant write a deceleration of independence and send it to Washington. But their is one major problem now a days, people want to secede (like in Texas) but they don't have the balls anymore to actually do it.

See, I'd post "Oh no, not this shit again" but I get the feeling I'd be hanged for posting a meme.

So instead I shall simply state the folly of this map and that this Russian analyst is rather ignorant.

It's just the 2004 returns. Florida and Indiana, along with Nevada, Colorado, New Mexico, Iowa, Ohio, Virginia, and even North Carolina, seceded from Jesusland last fall, electing a closeted Muslim Communist.

"jesusland" is crap. and not a bit maddening to those of us who live in those states being classified as such because of the way the citizens of our states voted. since there is the blanket "jesusland" for red states, maybe we should call the blue states "atheistland"? it would make about as much non sense.

yeah, utah totally wouldn't take the backside of colorado, the south of idaho, the even emptier quarters of wyoming, and the oregonian far east. it's not like there is some fucked up religious cult that dominates those places or anything...

btw, i've always liked things that treat state boundaries as permanent features if the country itself were to break up.

Well as we can see, this Russian professor was dead wrong. The United States of America is not going to slit up. Not even for the foreseeable future.

Sounds like sour grapes on the part of the Russians more than anything. They're probably still embarrassed about doing nothing during WWII and needing us to save them.

Relax. It's a joke. Don't get your panties in a bunch and write me a long, boring rebuttal about the role of the USSR in WWII.

Eh..West Virginia would split.

North goes with New York and Maryland

North-West would go with Ohio

South would go with Virginia and Kentucky

The map isn't all that unreaslistic, in terms of states where religion tends to hold disproportionate sway over policy. That's not 'christophobic' - it's observation of reality.

I tend to favor a Marxist view in these regards. States will tend to lump together based on economics more then religious grounds.
