Looking at Orange County, California Presidential election results.

The last time a Democrat won was 1936. Since then, the closest any Democrat came was a 2.6% in 2008, and that was Superstar Barack Obama. Before that, the closest was an 11.9% loss in 1964.

Running for local office is a waste really in such a heavily Republican place. Democrats have their own places they dominate.

Well, I was stuck there for 15 years, and was happy to put everything in my car and go. On my way out of the city, somebody from a freeway overpass threw a chunk of concrete down on me (popular sport around there), put a little chink in my windshield (naturally the crack eventually spread so that I had to replace the glass), just a farewell present from my city to confirm my decision to leave.

I've heard stories about US cities where, if you go beyond a certain street in a city, you will "definitely get shot". I can't even mentally grasp how a govt can let any city sink so far. Here in Aus, cities just... aren't dangerous. At least, not any more than the suburbs.

I live in the suburbs of St. Louis, which as of last year, has been named the most dangerous city in the US. You'll be fine if you stay out of the North side, East STL, and certain streets. However, my parents are very hesistant to let me go downtown to hang out with my friends that live there.
