I would assume data is a plural, as it's Latin and the singular form is datum. So, "the data are" is my guess.

That doesn't sound right. "The data is supporting his view" sounds better than "the data are supporting his view". Should be treated as a collective noun.

On my ICT exam back in the day, you got a mark taken off unless you put "data are" when defining data.

I wouldn't use "is" like above, it calls attention to the awkwardness. "The data supporting his view is ..." or "The data supports his view..." Or something of that sort. I like to try to sneak around using something that feels awkward, even if it is correct. There are things that are just uncomfortable to say/write, you know?

"Day-tuh". British. I'm also the only person I know who uses the singular, "datum" ("day-tum") to mean "a singular item which, in concert with others such, would form data"... I'm odd like that

I say 'day-tah', even though I'm aware that it's probably more etymologically justified to say 'dah-tah'.

I've also encountered a third pronunciation ' dat-ah', which I similarly reject. :)

I use my larynx and tongue. I'm from the northeastern USA.

Can't say I've ever thought about it, tbh <.< I think I use both interchangeably.

I say "data" [dɑtɑ]. Duh.

In English, it's something like "day-tah" though.

Day-tuh (Aberdeen, Scotland)
Please note that Mid Lothian is based on fantasy. Any references to anything/one/where that exists is completely coincidential.
Frequently used abbreviations: HoS = Head of State; HoG = Head of Government; ML = Mid Lothian; KSS - Kate Stephens-Smith.
Fancy an embassy in ML? Click me for details. (PS - I'll return the favour.)
I am usually rewriting stuff about Mid Lothian - just because it's true today isn't necessarily true tomorrow.

Warning - Full-time Grammar Nazi at work. You have been warned. (I guess that's due to my mum being an English teacher. Also, don't use masculine words to describe me - my name is Rebecca, which is clearly a feminine name.)
