Calm down; its a joke.

Istanbul IS Constantinople, because now it is Istanbul and not Constantinople, Constantinople has been gone a long time. They even wrote a song on this subject.

When referring to the city under the Ottomans and in modern Turkey, Istanbul.
When referring to the capital of first the eastern half of the Roman Empire, and then the Byzantine Empire, Constantinople.
When referring to the city under the unified Roman Empire, Byzantium.
When referring to the city before its capture by the Roman Empire, Byzantion.

I say Istanbul. Constantinople is rather unusual in Germany. Perhaps because we have a large Turkish minority here.

Why Istambul, Constantinople or Byzantium?

I call it Lygos.

But in reality, I call it Istambul. When I'm speaking in a pro-Greek manner, I call it Constantinople. I'll call it Constantinople when it's returned to it's rightful owners the Greeks. Oh, and the Turkish "Konstantinnye" or however it's spelt is cool.

Constantinople,
It is grossly incorrect to use the so called name "Istanbul" that name is associate with the Ottoman Captors, who turned the great city backward, and hated Christianity. Constantinople was in existence first.

That's what I find silly about the whole historical wankering going on. OP included.

The name of the city is Istanbul. Unless you're debating something regarding Byzantium or Constantinople (history debate/analysis/whathaveyous), calling the city by any other name than Istanbul is, well, stupid.

I'm not tirading, it is Constantinople since Constantine founded the city and that is that, the Turkish have no right to call it anything but, okay, and I don't mean to upset you, I am just trying to teach you something new.

You don't know much about history, do you?

The city belongs to the Turks. They get to name it whatever they want. They named it Istanbul. That is the name the world refers to it as. End of story.

Constantine died centuries ago, and the city has belonged to the Turks for years. No amount of historical wankering on your part will change that.
