''In most countries, when people see a same-sex couple they assume they're gay and when they see an opposite-sex couple they assume they're straight. In Codifin, when we see a same-sex couple we think that they're acting on their same-sex attraction and when we see an opposite-sex couple we think that they're acting on their opposite-sex attraction. And the reason is that everyone is assumed to be bisexual, until stating otherwise.''

But the Romans conquered BEYOND the known world. The Greeks and the mongals did too, but the greek empire only lasted one generation, hardly qualifying it as an empire at all, and i just do not know enough about the mongals.

So had he lived, there would have been no Roman Empire.

The Diadochi states lasted until 30 BC, while Hellenistic culture and civilisation continued for centuries beyond that. If one counts the Byzantine Empire as being Greek, then the Hellenic Empire lasted for over a millennium.

I'd question that. It's sort of like saying that following Alexander's conquest, there clearly was no chance for a Persian Empire.

For that matter, I'd even question Alexander's ability to overrun the mediterranean in the first place. Logistical difficulties - related to seapower - had already fucked with the Persians in the past, and there's no reason to assume that Alexander wouldn't have similar problems. Alexander had also wilfully sacrificed a substantial fraction of his seasoned elite with his march through the desert (An unnecessary action most likely meant as a punishment for his soldiers' mutiny in India), and executed more than one of his invaluable generals. Then there's his increasing tendency towards alcoholism, and of course, the decreasing loyalty of his friends on account of him adopting a Persian lifestyle and approach to governship.

Finally there is the issue of Alexander - apart from being dependent on the Persian Empire's hilarious division (They fought internal wars between different satraps with some regularity. The emperor didn't mind too much) and Darius III ridiculous lack of confidence and thus competence - fought his wars in a pretty simple fashion. Phalanx holds ground -> cavalry crashes into the enemy's flank -> Rout 'em!

Conquering the western mediterranean requires him to have and use a fleet, with which he has approximately no experience whatsoever, meaning that he's ultimately dependent on the (Antagonistic and exhausted) Greeks and Phoenicians.

IMHO, his grandiose plans would very likely have resulted in Carthage drumming together an alliance between it and various minor factions (Nort necessarily the Etruscans, the two didn't like each other much, but certainly the Romans as a sort of hammer on the ground), and essentially replicating the Persian/ Greek wars on a larger scale.

Alexander may not necessarily lose - a very real possibility though it is -, but even if he wins, once he's out of the way, things will go back to roughly what'd have happened anyway within a century or two.
