AI spies you can generally deal with. Usually the enemy is quick off the mark, so I personally find I have plenty of time to rush all of my units into the centre of the city, get them into a defensive formation, and decimate them by blocking them up, and launching counter attacks on the flanks down the streets.

I've never had an enemy get to the center of my city before. They always break against the walls, or lose their siege equipment in a sortie with me.

I once held a 1111-strong New Spain army with a garrison of 634 Mayans. The fools depended on a bunch of rams, so I sent out Jaguar warriors to hold them up. Meanwhile, the archers on the wall (large wooden wall) pelted them with volleys and tower arrow fire. For some reason (a glitch or bug, I assume), I couldn't destroy their siege equipment (it included a siege tower that wouldn't fucking burn, either), but I soon found this unnecessary. I almost completely annihilated them and forced them to break the siege on the southernmost city on the Americas campaign... Forget it's name.

Must be. I think I hit them with 5 volleys of fire arrows + the tower fire arrows + my Jaguar Warriors trying to break them before I finally gave up and instead focused on killing as many Spaniards I could. I thought I was actually going to loose. 8)

Mass Effect 2 has been an awesome rent so far.
A young merc terminally ill with cancer, I signed on for a government "human weapon" program: Weapon X. They got rid of the cancer like they promised...sorta...by melding an advanced healing factor to it. The gruesome experiments left me physically and mentally scarred, so they put me in a mental ward where the guards held a dead pool. I escaped and rose to infamy, partly a hero.

For falling in love with a physical avatar of Death, I was cursed with life. I pissed off a divine power so that I could be with her again, but it failed. After I got struck down by some powerful lighting, I came back to life...as a breathing corpse. Fuck.

Yeah, sometimes I will even yield the gate and walls in hopes that they'll come rushing into the city unprepared, where I can use my heavy infantry to bog them down while my archers go to town on them. It usually works, even if I'm outnumbered.

Which Total War game are you guys talking about? Rome or Medieval 2? Because those siege battles sound so much better than the ones in Empire and Napoleon.

Medieval 2 and Rome. Mostly M2. I haven't had a chance to play Empire or Napoleon yet.

Or a smart one. I've had computers outflank me with cavalry and even some infantry a few times, it's not hard when they have you outnumbered. Also, IIRC reinforcements enter the battle relative to where they were on the map.

Artillery would probably have better supply trains, and something needs infinite ammo.

Except they'd be supply trains specifically for the artillery, since that's the cornerstone of your damn army.

Your army doesn't react well to threats on its own, and if you're distracted with a different goddamn group you probably won't be watching your rear. Especially not when you have a limited number of troops. Lrn2humansplayingstrategygames.
