I'm not sure I've ever had AI use spies against me, though.
AI spies you can generally deal with. Usually the enemy is quick off the mark, so I personally find I have plenty of time to rush all of my units into the centre of the city, get them into a defensive formation, and decimate them by blocking them up, and launching counter attacks on the flanks down the streets.

I've never had an enemy get to the center of my city before. They always break against the walls, or lose their siege equipment in a sortie with me.

I once held a 1111-strong New Spain army with a garrison of 634 Mayans. The fools depended on a bunch of rams, so I sent out Jaguar warriors to hold them up. Meanwhile, the archers on the wall (large wooden wall) pelted them with volleys and tower arrow fire. For some reason (a glitch or bug, I assume), I couldn't destroy their siege equipment (it included a siege tower that wouldn't fucking burn, either), but I soon found this unnecessary. I almost completely annihilated them and forced them to break the siege on the southernmost city on the Americas campaign... Forget it's name.

Medieval 2 and Rome. Mostly M2. I haven't had a chance to play Empire or Napoleon yet.Wiztopia wrote:

Or a smart one. I've had computers outflank me with cavalry and even some infantry a few times, it's not hard when they have you outnumbered. Also, IIRC reinforcements enter the battle relative to where they were on the map.

No a cheating one. There's no way an enemy army could go BEHIND your own lines without somebody noticing something.
