eh, i've got shogun 2 and it's okay in some areas and it's nice to have new troops to play about with but.

I don't like what they did with sieges, added to that they didn't add objective based battles for singleplayer, units move too quickly uphill negating the main advantage to defensive positions from high places.

cavalry rock though and i like some of the little extra units and naval combat is uh still peculiar.
Overall not that impressed.

I really didn't like Shogun 2. From what I played, there wasn't a whole lot of diversity in the factions and they didn't really seem to have much in the way of advantages and disadvantages. Medieval 2 and Rome were much better, IMO.

aye that was the other thing i noticed too, medieval and rome had factions that for the most part looked unique and played very differently, shogun...well it just doesn't have the same variety.
oh and don't get me started on the weird event where the shogun gets pissed with you for taking too much territory or somesuch. or the lacklustre diplomacy.

Tbh Medieval 2 had pretty wtf diplomacy too. I literally succeeded a few Pope missions earlier today simply because I couldn't move armies towards French cities fast enough, and a few small Italian factions temporarily declared war on me after I started fighting one of their enemies (Portugal). And the Holy Roman Empire (IIRC the only faction even sorta a threat to me) declared war on me after being allied practically the whole game, for no reason whatsoever.

I think my proudest moment in M2 was holding a bridge against a 900ish man French army with two groups of Levy Spearmen and three Ballistae.

I think it might be fun just for a shooter that has an actually story and background to it. As glitchy as their games can be, Bethesda is usually pretty good on making up a good story for their games. It's taking the RPG aspect out of F3 and F:NV and just focusing on the shooting. Which, besides BF3 and the MW shit is a rarity by a major publisher.

It was the fundemental flaw with MTW:II. They never fucking surrendered even after you'd decimated every settlement and left them with one settlement but you couldn't be arsed to send a fleet over to the holy land where that settlement was inevitbly located because a)The mongols are almost on their way and you want to be away from that shitstorm and b)The French are getting uppity.

Mongols in MTW2 are pathetic in the campaign.

Hmm. Some large armies consisting of mostly horses has arrived.

Especially with the English, when you could just force them into a battle on your terms and decimate them with Longbows and wooden stakes.

Gears of War 3, anyone?
A young merc terminally ill with cancer, I signed on for a government "human weapon" program: Weapon X. They got rid of the cancer like they promised...sorta...by melding an advanced healing factor to it. The gruesome experiments left me physically and mentally scarred, so they put me in a mental ward where the guards held a dead pool. I escaped and rose to infamy, partly a hero.

For falling in love with a physical avatar of Death, I was cursed with life. I pissed off a divine power so that I could be with her again, but it failed. After I got struck down by some powerful lighting, I came back to life...as a breathing corpse. Fuck.

Excuse me, sir. Seeing as how the V.P. is such a V.I.P., shouldn't we keep the P.C. on the Q.T.? 'Cause if it leaks to the V.C. he could end up M.I.A., and then we'd all be put out in K.P.

Pretty easy. Clump the spearmen on your end of the bridge, fire flaming bolts out of the siege equipment as the enemy advances. I broke one unit of Sergeant Spearmen before they even hit my troops, and a second shortly after they engaged. I took extremely heavy losses, though, and only won because the French couldn't stay together long enough to charge the full length of the bridge while under fire.

With any bunch of spearmen and archers, a city, and a Mongol army silly enough to attempt an assault after getting a spy to open the gates, one could theoretically decimate them.

i was losing a bit despite a successful ambush i set up the romans were pounding my infantry back and back on all sides of my attack, most of my army routed so i sent in my general in a last ditch attempt.

I have a new favorite weapon in BF3. C-4 placed at choke points behind cover. The attackers run into the choke point and if they don't take cover I spray em down with my machine gun. They do take cover I detonate the C-4 and get triple kills galore.

For revenge, I took all their territory but one, put the populations to the sword, sold/gave them all back to the faction leader, then took them all again. (I ended up selling them all to Venice after that, too.)

I'm not sure I've ever had AI use spies against me, though.

AI spies you can generally deal with. Usually the enemy is quick off the mark, so I personally find I have plenty of time to rush all of my units into the centre of the city, get them into a defensive formation, and decimate them by blocking them up, and launching counter attacks on the flanks down the streets.
