You were thinking of sinking your 'hook' into the Foreign Advisor but the science guy caught you greasing your abacus at the thought of it?

But, on a serious level, why would you want to execute them?

You could say the same about them all.

They were all pretty vocal about what they thought of your actions, especially when you went into Anarchy.

What would you do with the others?

It's a nice feature overall, I'd say.

Also, has anyone seen this?

Overall, I think it speaks volumes about the fondness that many of us gamers still have for Civilization II - and, in general, for the retro (and otherwise 'old') games that we've grown to love over the years.

It's why I haven't played EaW in years, but SW:GB is one of the various older games installed on my Windows 2000 VM on my laptop, and one that I still play.

I never really liked Battlegrounds that much. Mostly becuase no Spaz Combat.

There was plenty of space combat. It just allowed for the use of the same units regardless of whether or not your map contained space tiles/brushes.

You could also do cloud combat. So pretty.

I have.

I've been meaning to attempt such a scenario (I remember it because of how similar it was to the premise of 1984, with three superpowers in perpetual war). I might do so now that I have a VM that I can use to abstract the game and OS from actual hardware and keep the game going between hardware upgrades.

I remember doing something similar in SMAC, where it was a stalemate between me (the University) and the Hive. Fucking Hive.

I hesitate to call the space maps Galactic Battlegrounds had as good Space Combat. The main thing I loved about Empire at War was the space maps. Something rewarding about dropping five star destroyers on top of your enemy's space station.

Eh. I didn't care for Empire at War's implementation, mainly because I was hoping for it to be truly three-dimensional a la Homeworld, rather than feeling like a more restrictive rehash of Galactic Battlegrounds' space battles.

It would of been epic three dimensional, but as it was it looked great, was fun to play and felt like Star Wars. Something which Galactic Battlegrounds did not. Galactic Battlegrounds felt like a well made mode for age of Empires. Mostly because it was just that.

No, the grail of first-person shooter is my idea for a Star Wars game I posted a while back that would make Planetside 2 look like COD. Sadly, it could only be run by computers or consoles decades from now.

For some reason I've never really cared for FPS games set in the Star Wars universe. I mean, the Battlefront series was okay, but their controls were weird on the PC compared to the console (where that weirdness didn't exist on similar FPSes like Battlefield 2).

Now, a new Star Wars RTS would be nice. Perhaps one with both truly-3D (Homeworld-like) space combat and worthwhile planet combat, as well as some city-building elements.

And no, Empire at War doesn't count; that sodding pile of manure ought to be taken out into a field and shot.

This wouldn't be any Star Wars game. This would be the game.

Two eras, or more possibly as DLC. You join a legion of a thousand people or so, and face off enemy legions. There would also be numerous different roles. For example, my idea boils down to Planetside 2 on steroids. There would be numerous roles, with players able to effectively do anything within a Fleet they joined. Just fuck it, this would take forever to describe.

MMO/RTS/FPS/TPS/Naval Combat/Starfighters/etc. Just live what you see in the movies and lore.

Excuse me, sir. Seeing as how the V.P. is such a V.I.P., shouldn't we keep the P.C. on the Q.T.? 'Cause if it leaks to the V.C. he could end up M.I.A., and then we'd all be put out in K.P.

All the Max Payne games appear to be on Steam for $15, if anyone cares. I'd be tempted if the 3rd had any possibility of working whatsoever.

Civilization II is - for many Civ fans - the pinnacle of achievement in the Civilization series.

That whole "one more turn" thing? It came from this game IIRC.

This guy was just picking one more turn....for a decade.

Well that's what I was saying; I did something similar in SMAC. Wasn't really ten years, though. More like about a year of fighting the Hive on-and-off until my mom upgraded the family computer and didn't keep the savegame. I believe I had already won the game by diplomacy, but decided to keep playing, resulting in shenanigans like the Hive cornering the global energy market (good hell is that a dickish move :P ).

So yeah, if I end up doing something like that again, it'll probably be in SMAC.

Even Sid Meier himself has commented on the decade-old save game that Lycerius has had going:

"My first thought was, 'Wow! I can't believe anyone has been playing Civ II for that long,'" Sid Meier told The Associated Press (via Yahoo) in an interview. "It's been more than 15 years since we released that game, and I don't think any of us expected a decade-long game would come out of it. It would be amazing if we could come back in 2025 and find out if someone's had a 10-year game of Civ V going."
