Seems like a lot of people are disappointed. I bet many people are wishing they'd canceled DNF long before it got dragged out the way it did.

But you know what, I think that people would have been disappointed even if it was a great game just for the fact it took so long to come out.

Same person who used Yahoo Answers to find out if saving stuff made their hard drive heavier, I assume.

Obviously this is a tricky question that needs to be answered,

data as we all know, is stored as 1 and 0, now, if E=MC2, then the data must gain a mass as it goes from electically charged bits in the ram of the machine, to physically stored on the drive. So yes, filling up your hard drive will make it heavier. Best to run everything in RAM and never turn the laptop off or unplug it.

Or switch to SSDs

Yes, I'm pre-ordering it soon actually.

And yes, I'm a huge fan of the series, I broke my teeth on 'Distant Thunder' then went straight to 'Fires of Liberation'.

I haven't, largely for the fact that by the end of 4 I didn't even want to play 4 anymore. It was good, but I don't see how they made a series out of it.

Unfortunatly no, I played Ace Combat 4 about a week before 'Fires of Liberation' came out, so when it did I just went straight to the latest.

Though I have to say, I am pretty psyched about 'Assault Horizon', the new close range assault mechanic is already getting me to drool. Hope the bring the F-4 Back though

Apparently the gaming company that was formed out of the ashes of ACES Studio is still around, and if you go to their website, you see some.....interesting banners.

http://www.cascadegamefoundry.com/

If you click on each page on their website, you see a different banner on each page.

About CGF

Simulating Experience.™

Cascade Game Foundry™ (CGF) enables people of all ages and ability levels to explore the world from home, so they can drive a train through the Swiss Alps, dive on the Great Barrier Reef, paddle down the Nile, fly a plane through the Grand Canyon, hike the ruins of Machu Picchu, and thrill to many other kinds of reality-based adventure.

For inquiries or more information, please send mail to: info [at] cascadegamefoundry [dot] com

Honestly I don't know if they can match up to what's already out there. Flight Simulator X is awesome, and then there's RailWorks and Trainz. RailWorks should be coming out with a major update (dynamic lighting, Multiplayer block assets, etc.) pretty soon, and Trainz has added Multiplayer to their next installment.

Plus there's Microsoft's Flight. Link

I guess combining all forms of transportation into one game could be interesting (and a hard drive eater), but will it be as realistic as a simulator devoted to just flying, or to just trains? That remains to be seen.

Anyways, IMHO, this looks way better than what CGF has in their banner.

Alas, I burned out on watching LoL livestreams some months ago. But I pretty much spent my whole weekend watching the Starcraft streams from Dreamhack. Even as I write, it is likely that the Moon vs HuK final is reaching its conclusion...and I'm at work. FML!

Minoriteeburg wrote:Has anyone tried Brink?

Yeah I have it - got it over Steam. My honest opinion is that the game itself is not bad, but it's not worth the full cost. Why? Because iD and Splash Damage made the free-to-play Wolfenstein Enemy Territory multiplayer that works the exact same way. Aside from a more complex rank up system and an achievement system (and better graphics), the game plays exactly the same. In that sense I felt cheated, in that I bought essentially what they made free before in a prettier, Easter Island-Headed graphic package.

I have no idea what to get.

Anyone know some good strategy games for the PS3? By strategy, I mean games similar to the PC's Age of Empires or the crappy-but-still-strategy Civilization Revolution. To be honest, FPS can only fill my heart to a certain amount.

Well back when I played, I went through bpark3.com due to having friends that admin'ed it, but it's open to everyone. They host a server for it, as the FtP wolfenstein in multiplayer only (but it'll be enough for reference, as Brink's single player and multiplayer use the same maps and play exactly the same, save that singleplayer has bots.) They have the game download and patches for it on their website, and even if no one is on their server it fills in with bots, too.

One thing I found hilarious is that the multiplayer servers for Brink and WolfET are equally abandoned, despite WolfET being so much older. You have a few multiplayer servers packed full, and the rest are empty, lol.

I haven't been posting in this thread, but I do suppose I will now.

I consider myself to be a retrogamer. Not because I dislike modern games or anything (I loved my Xbox before it broke), but simply because retro games are way easier to emulate on a PC, and because I never get tired of those games I loved from my childhood. I have a strong appreciation of the history of gaming. I appreciate the classics, and don't really understand how some people can't play older games after playing Crysis or something.

That being said, there are some trends in gaming that have given me a lot to think about. For instance, this is how first person shooters have changed:

Image
From gibbing demons with a shotgun....

Image
....to torturing and executing the leader of a national liberation struggle (who of course is portrayed as a murderous bastard due to his opposition to U.S. global hegemony) in an abandoned warehouse.

Essentially, while there were some (modestly) political games in the past, gaming has gotten a lot more political. While games today are also often more deep, which is good, some games (such as some in the CoD series) don't use that depth very well. Perhaps it's simply to cater to a meathead audience with a meathead storyline (most people playing CoD tend to forget that the campaign exists, anyway). What I'm trying to say here is, I don't want pro-imperialist propaganda in my video games, dammit. I want to relax and pop a few caps in a few asses, not feel guilty because I know the NVA the game is making me gun down is just trying to defend their country from invasion, slaughter and exploitation.

I want to see originality in games, and looking back, games of the past had a lot more originality. In Space Harrier I could be riding a fucking jetpack while shooting dragons and imps and shit with a laser gun. In the original Mario Bros. you play as a plumber who goes into these giant pipes and beats the hell out of monsters. Modern games, though, well...most of them all look the same. Their graphics are brown, the game play is the same, and the games themselves are pretty interchangeable. There are exceptions, of course, but I'm just tired of blah. I want more originality in games, but publishers know that they'll make more money if they stick to the same old shit.

There are some more frightening trends in modern gaming that further influence my sticking to the classics. For instance, modern game companies are acting like Big Brother at times. Sony says you don't own your PS3, you're just being licensed its use, so you can't mod it in any way. Plenty of games ask you for information and shit so that you can progress through the storyline (copy protection), and the game will shut down if you don't know the answer. Companies are moving towards making games a service instead of a product, which means you'll have to pay constantly to play them. Even games that don't require an online server. The idea of downloadable content is also being abused; sometimes now, and this is increasing, you might have to pay to download large portions of a game...in addition to the online fees and the cash you already paid for the game. I'm not even going to begin talking about the PSN outage.

tl;dr the profit motive is taking over the game industry to the point where sometimes I just want to say "fuck it" and not play new games at all. If I'm going to pay for a game, I want to get what I pay for. Retro games give me just that, which is why I stick to them so. Also, Turok was way better back on the N64.
