Man, what is it with this almost universal hatred of the Pit Bulls, or ANY type of bull dogs?

Woman: God Told Me To Hang, Burn Pit Bull

A Spartanburg County woman told animal control officers God advised her to hang and then burn her nephew's pit bull because it was "a devil dog" and because it had chewed her bible.

Spartanburg County animal control officers said Miriam Fowler Smith, 65, of Pacolet Mills, confessed to wrapping an extension cord around the dog's neck, hanging it from a tree, and then setting it on fire.

Smith faces one felony count of ill treatment of animals in general, and she remains in the Spartanburg County Detention Center as of this posting.

The dog, named Diamond, belonged to Smith's nephew, Andy Fowler, who left the home on Jan. 9. When he returned Jan. 15, Fowler noticed the dog wasn't there.

He told officers he assumed the dog had gotten loose and was running free, but when he pressed his aunt, she confessed to killing it, according to animal control officers.

Officers found the body of the animal under a mound of dried grass on the property at 410 John Worthy Road in Pacolet Mills.

Officers state they spoke with Smith while they were there January 16 when she came out of the home to walk to church.

The report states she told officers she killed the dog after it chewed on her bible and that she was afraid children in the neighborhood could be bitten by the animal.

Animal Control Director James Nelson says this case is the first time in his career that anyone’s ever been charged under the felony statute against cruelty to animals.

Officers arrested Smith Sunday, January 23, and as of Monday at 11:21 a.m. she was still being held in the Spartanburg County Detention Center.

Something tells me this woman has started her long descent into dementia, I mean she's too old to be those psychopathic kids who torture animals for "fun". Also, dogs chew on stuff all the damn time, it's what they do to keep their teeth sharp, that's why you give them a damn rawhide. I hope that if it IS dementia, that the woman gets help, and if it isn't then I hope she spends the rest of her life in prison.

Thoughts?

Can we charge God as an accessory?

That'd be funny, I'd love to see that.

Huh, well I would have just shot it. The hanging and burning seems a bit...excessive?

If it were Medieval times I would say hang her too.

I'm sure she is liable for prosecution. Right?

The pope. He claims to be the voice of god, therefore he has to take the blame.

That's horrible. The people involved with this should be arrested and punished. This is not acceptable at all.

-5 for not understanding the Catholic church. Ignorance is ignorance, whether you be religious or an atheist.

If it were medieval times, the chewing of a bible would foretell Armageddon.

I'm sure she is liable for prosecution. Right?

Well, yeah. They got evidence and everything.

Especially when you call a dog 'devil dog' because it chews your bible. Hello! It's a dog, it doesn't know any better. If your precious bible means so much to you, put it somewhere where the dog won't reach it. She's more an animal than the poor canine she hanged and burned.

I don't disagree. I just dislike pitbulls, though this is just cruel (and creepy). Reminds me of that one actor who recently butchered his mom, because "god" was telling him to do so.

That's incredibly naive... Dogs do have the capability of thought.
A properly trained dog won't eat books...

That being said, it was a Pit Bull. The entire breed should be eradicated like small pox.

I'm sorry, that rant wasn't directed at you. :p

But yes, it is ignorance, it is cruelty and I hope she is prosecuted.

What was incredible naive? A dog doesn't know any better. It doesn't know what a bible is or if it means anything to anyone. Dogs chew things.

My dogs have never eaten a book in their lives... It's called training.

They do, to some extent. But they wouldn't know any better.

That being said, it was a Pit Bull. The entire breed should be eradicated like small pox.

Ah, but going by your earlier statement, the blame must be put on the owner.

Your dogs. And as you said, you trained them. A dog without training doesn't know any better. The lady in the article, however, should've known better. She is ignorant and cruel. I do hope, as I said, that she gets prosecuted.

Of course the problem with Pit Bulls is ownership... However, the quickest way to fix the problem is eradicating the breed, a breed created for fighting.
