It would be even better if you understood that population is more important than land area and Vermont has fewer people than Rhode Island or Connecticut. If you go by population, merging Vermont and Maine makes MUCH more sense than anything involving Massachusetts or Connecticut. Massachusetts is already one of the bigger states in the U.S. by population, so we really do not need to expand.
You might also be interested to know that Maine and Massachusetts were admitted to the Union as one state and later split because we needed another free state to maintain the balance of power between free states and slave states. If you are going to let Massachusetts absorb another state, it really ought to be Maine.
