Yeah, if it weren't then we wouldn't feel okay about shooting animals for fun or eating them. A primitive emotion like fear isn't exactly what I meant by "psychological pain", though it certainly is, and it would still be cruel to repeatedly subject an animal to it for pleasure (which we already do in the form of hunting). Do you have any source that shows animals feel strong fear of non-consensual sex? Like a stronger fear than being put on a leash or tethered would cause?

As someone said earlier, even in the cases of animals that can consent, they can't alert authorities to when they have been mistreated on their own, so the choices are make it illegal and only investigate when there is evidence of occurrence, or make it legal and perform constant checks on all pet owners to look for signs of mistreatment.

I guess. But asking animals for consent still seem ridiculous to me, seeing as how we don't ask for it in anything else.

Animals are property.

Do with them as you will.

addendum: Animals are not given consent or thought as actual beings, but as property, anyways. Why should we bother giving them rights when they will never truly understand the meaning of them, or be able to communicate with human beings on a meaningful level. Unlike an infant, or even a disabled person, animals have no ability to understand any human concepts such as liberty, rights, and protection from tyranny.

Pain or discomfort in general are not "human concepts", which is why we have human concepts such as animal cruelty laws.

As for causing the animal physical pain, I never spoke of such. I was talking about subordinating an animal's body to your will, but not by causing pain in the process. Indeed, riding a horse probably causes a lot more physical discomfort to the animal than sucking its dick would.

As someone said earlier, even in the cases of animals that can consent, they can't alert authorities to when they have been mistreated on their own, so the choices are make it illegal and only investigate when there is evidence of occurrence, or make it legal and perform constant checks on all pet owners to look for signs of mistreatment.

Alternately, we could make it legal and not check unless there's probably cause. People abuse animals all the time. No one checks up on pets to make sure they're not being abused. That would be ridiculous. I don't see that the overdue legalization of bestiality should change that.

I think the issue of consent in bestiality is a non-issue. To deny an animal's ability to communicate with a human is to deny thousands of years of domestication. To deny an animal's ability to communicate sexual desire is human exceptionalism.

I think people are against bestiality because being disgusted by it increases a groups chances of passing its genes along. Therefore, they take offense before considering and then rationalize this offense as much as they feel they need to.

Eww, who would think of screwing a cute defenseless pet??

I mean sure, one may be looking for horse like qualities, but thats no reason for bestiality to be practiced.. Its kinda sick, what if you get impregnated with some ape's semen and have a mutant baby :o and it somehow manages to live!

Its GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRREAT!

I think bestiality is not ok, by the virtue of the fact that said animal have not given consent to have sex with you. Unless of course, if a dog tries to hump your leg or something. Even then, they still haven't given a consent that you understand.

That is kinda true. If we allow animals to be corralled and butchered, why can't we have sex with them? It is hypocrisy. Treating them as property and then giving it some human value at the same time.

I guess another reason why bestiality is bad is because of the health hazards. But I'm not sure on that one.
