"Sorry" has really lost it's meaning these days. Even if they do mean it, sometimes it's hard to forgive them.

To err is human, to forgive is divine.

No, apologies are for the weak and semi-homosexual. Therefore, not for me.

I only believe in apologizing if I truly regret what I have done. If I haven't, I will not apologize, because then I would be lying, which I cannot tolerate.

I will, however, forgive almost anybody. However, if somebody will not forgive other people, I will not forgive them.

I have such a bad memory that the question almost doesn't apply :? But when someone does do something to offend me and then apologizes I usually forgive them. Unless they continue to do it, then I shun them, like the little Amish girl they are. However if someone commits a crime forgiveness is irrelevant, justice is to be done whether the person is sorry or not.

I read minds.

Too often saying 'I'm sorry' is more about alleviating your own sense of guilt rather than a genuine desire to provide the other person with some token in return for whatever you did.

Apologies, meh. If it's a small wrong, like eating the last jelly doughnut and not knowing that someone didn't get any cos you took two, eh. I'm sorry is fine.

If it's a larger wrong, then I'm sorry doesn't cut it unless you make good. "I'm sorry -- I borrowed your cashmere sweater and dropped a cigarette ash on it -- and burned a hole near where your left nipple will be when you put it on! Where'd you get it -- I want to replace it for you."

Some wrongs there are no way to make good. Don't tell me you're sorry you killed my father because you were driving drunk. I bet you are -- sorry you got caught. I won't be sorry about punching you until you stop moving or they drag me off you bodily.

I believe forgiving someone is much better than being angry at them as it shows your mental strength in such situations. It proves your in control of your emotions. Of course if it happens a second time you might let it pass but a third deserves no forgiveness, especially for the same reason.

I apologize a lot, since I tend to mess up a lot.

I also forgive easily- it just rolls off my back.

My view on Xtian forgiveness is they do not mean for you top be a freaking idiot. By being an idiot I mean accepting the apology and leaving yourself open for the same action again. I think the purpose of forgiveness is to get being angery and hurt out of your system, not so much to produce a promise to treat the person before

I read a book on negotiation.

It had a stint on apologies etc.

If someone apologizes a lot, it makes them weaker and inferior to you subconsciously, giving you the upper hand in that particular conversation. It also sets the scene for them to make concessions.

-----

Me as far as apologies go? Depends. It's situationally based for me.

I'm not good at forgiving. Or apologizing. Evens out I guess.

Proud member of Ankh Mauta.

I asked my hippy friends for help. Well! You’d think I asked for a kidney. They kept bringing up the fact that I was using GM seeds. Eventually they all got together and said, “Max… we can’t help you any more. We want to. But you brought these problems on yourself. And the thing is, when you ask for help, you’re actually asking us to use our skills and knowledge to prop up a corporatized product that’s not just practically inferior to the free alternative you ignored, but actually bad for the world. We just can’t do that.”

And that was how I taught them to stop asking me for help with Windows. ~Max Barry

I have a relative who constantly brings up how I am going to hell because I have not forgiven him. Of course, he has not admitted he was wrong or apologized. He just wants me not to be mad because it makes him uncomfortable. He said if I do not forgive him then Jesus will not forgive me. I do not believe Jesus forgives people who do not admit wrong/ask for forgiveness, so why should I do more than Jesus?

He is a big proponent of the "I'm sorry you're being a bitch" type of "apology".

If you're apologizing you should realize/admit that you are wrong. If you can't do that then do not attempt to apologize.
