Wilgrove wrote:So in the thread about discrimination by a BnB against a homosexual couple, the topic of homosexuality being a choice came up. Rather than hijack the thread, I thought I'd create another thread here dealing with the topic. This has been one of those arguments that the social Conservative and right wing love to tout out from time to time. "Arrgghhh It's a choice, homosexuality is a choice!"

Oh really? Ok, so by that logic, Heterosexuality is also a choice. I mean if you can be choose to be gay, then you can choose to be straight. So, my question to those who believe that homosexuality is a choice is this. Why not make out with a person of the same gender? I mean if it's a choice, then you should have no problem with the simple act of making out with someone of your own gender.

As for the rest of us, what are your thoughts on this whole mythos about homosexuality being a choice?

I think that going out of one's way to counter it does nothing but give tacit support to the premise that it matters. Thus, i just ignore such claims.

Why not? By the Social Conservative logic, if homosexuality is a choice, then any straight person, should have no problem, in choosing to engage in a sexual act with someone of the same gender.

Not too mention the fact that it implies that all those "breeders" that believe that at some point fancied members of the same gender...

Proud member of Ankh Mauta.

I asked my hippy friends for help. Well! You’d think I asked for a kidney. They kept bringing up the fact that I was using GM seeds. Eventually they all got together and said, “Max… we can’t help you any more. We want to. But you brought these problems on yourself. And the thing is, when you ask for help, you’re actually asking us to use our skills and knowledge to prop up a corporatized product that’s not just practically inferior to the free alternative you ignored, but actually bad for the world. We just can’t do that.”

And that was how I taught them to stop asking me for help with Windows. ~Max Barry

Hard for me to address this question because I don't believe in binary gender in the first place. So it kind of becomes a nonsensical issue to me.
