So in the thread about discrimination by a BnB against a homosexual couple, the topic of homosexuality being a choice came up. Rather than hijack the thread, I thought I'd create another thread here dealing with the topic. This has been one of those arguments that the social Conservative and right wing love to tout out from time to time. "Arrgghhh It's a choice, homosexuality is a choice!"

Oh really? Ok, so by that logic, Heterosexuality is also a choice. I mean if you can be choose to be gay, then you can choose to be straight. So, my question to those who believe that homosexuality is a choice is this. Why not make out with a person of the same gender? I mean if it's a choice, then you should have no problem with the simple act of making out with someone of your own gender.

As for the rest of us, what are your thoughts on this whole mythos about homosexuality being a choice?

i think thats what they mean. THEY could choose to be gay--meaning that they have unsatisfied same sex urges that they try to deny.

Sadly no, even today i read in slovak newspaper how Lithuania is being hammered by the EU for laws (which have popular support) which forbid public behaviour which propagates homosexuality.
The same it was when Hungarians showed no public support to one of the decadent parades

There is not necessarily a dichotomy between choice and genetic tendency. After all, if Indians tend to like curry then that does not mean there is something in the Indian genepool wired to like curry, but neither does it mean all those people enjoying their curry chose to like it either.
