Why the love for Churchill? He didn't win World War 2 for us (this was Russia, who saved our arse as they did in 1812 and really 1915-16, the US didn't win in Europe whatsoever and it's not like the Japanese were in any position to do anything important right from the outset), and as part of the wartime coalition prepared us shockingly poorly for the postwar period by basically presuming that Lend-Lease would continue.

In office from 1951-55 there were very few real success stories, and much wasted blood and treasure following US foreign policy aims to prevent the inflation of the pound, as if this really mattered in an economy dependent on exports for recovery, and rationing internally until 1954 (Labour should also have known better, but the Conservatives, as a new government, could probably have gotten away with pulling out of Korea). His government also collosally misjudged its dealings with Nasser, and failed to adequately challenge the subimperialism of ARAMCO in Saudi Arabia, which led fairly directly to the Bureimi dispute going on pointlessly and painfully for year after year. Eugh.
