I'm inclined to trust him over people who claimed they knew him years ago. And going by his words, he isn't a liberal.

Well if he had Ayn Rand in his library that makes him a libertarian and not a liberal -- although I often confuse the two

He listed a book called "Siddartha" as a favourite. Clearly he was an extreme militant Buddhist terrorist.

"Never be deceived that the rich will permit you to vote away their wealth." - Lucy Parsons
Socialism is an economic system characterised by social ownership of the means of production and co-operative management of the economy. "Social ownership" may refer to cooperative enterprises, common ownership, state ownership, citizen ownership of equity, or any combination of these. There are many varieties of socialism and there is no single definition encapsulating all of them. They differ in the type of social ownership they advocate, the degree to which they rely on markets or planning, how management is to be organised within productive institutions, and the role of the state in constructing socialism.

Objectivist. Libertarians don't like being associated with objectivists, and objectivists don't like being associated with libertarians. Each thinks the other makes them look bad. One is right.

Objectivism is libertarianism plus a bunch of philosophy justifying your intellectual superiority over anyone that disagrees with you even slightly.

The difference is religion and charity. Libertarians have a more positive view of religion than objectivists, and don't mind charity as long as it's voluntary.

The kamikaze were following a militant Zen Buddhist philosophy.

The Japanese Zen establishment—including the Sōtō sect, the major branches of Rinzai, and several renowned teachers— has been criticized for its involvement in Japanese militarism and nationalism during World War II and the preceding period. A notable work on this subject was Zen at War (1998) by Brian Victoria, an American-born Sōtō priest. At the same time, however, one must be aware that this involvement was by no means limited to the Zen school: all orthodox Japanese schools of Buddhism supported the militarist state. What may be most striking, though, as Victoria has argued, is that many Zen masters known for their post-war internationalism and promotion of "world peace" were open nationalists in the inter-war years.[18] And some of them, like Haku'un Yasutani, the founder of the Sanbo Kyodan School, even voiced their anti-semitic and nationalistic opinions after World War II.

Also, it is possible to be both Shinto and Buddhist at the same time. They aren't incompatible.

Your average high-school-er has no clue what liberalism actually is. They could have easily confused it with libertarianism or conservatism for that matter.
