It wasn't so much a slippery slope argument as me saying I don't like surveillance cameras in general. Even if I KNEW for 100% certain that they were ONLY going to be put in schools, I still wouldn't like them. I don't like school uniforms either. I don't like metal detectors in schools. I don't like anything that can be used to turn schools into something out of a police state.

How? I have almost killed myself because of the pressure and need to succeed. I was trying as hard as I possibly could to get decent grades, and still failing. A large part of it was being humiliated by teachers when they called me out for getting something wrong or forgetting to do my homework. I know many other kids who have the same struggle, and none of it has to do with bullying. So please tell me, how is it a crock of shit?

I'm at school, and thats not the case. Therefore, you making baseless overbearing generalisations is quite pointless and rather useless in a thread about CCTV cameras in school.

On the other hand, at my school they were helpful when one kid decided to pull a knife on me. He was searched later by the site policeman and there was nothing on him. They had to check CCTV to show I wasn't lying, and he got expelled.

You have to realize that in college, students are expected to get all the worksheets, packets, or projects done to study. If they fall behind, they're stuck, and will fail the class. If they fail the class, they have to dish out another several hundred/thousand dollars to take it over again.

That's nothing. I'm given crap loads of work by 26-31 different students every day of the week. And my employer expects me to mark every single worksheet, packet or project. If I don't finish, I get investigated, put on an employee improvement programme or fired.

There ARE surveilance cameras at my school...but they're such a joke. Seriously. They don't even matter. The school doesn't have the funding to maintain them, so they don't even work. Trust me, too many people have flashed them and gotten away with it for them to be in working order. Even besides that, schools don't have the manpower to watch them. Nice try, though. ^^

How about, instead of treating the symptoms, we try to figure out why kids do over the top bad shit and fix the problem instead?

My high school had cameras everywhere. They worried me more than made me feel safe. And I had no intention of causing trouble or anything. And then our school decided we needed to wear ID cards because somehow that would make it easier to find security "threats" or something, as if that was possible in a high school of 2400.

You have to understand that I went through middle school and high school too, and I know you are talking out of your ass. Like I said, I didn't like school either, and I didn't do all my homework; but if you want a real career after you graduate, that is just as much work as school. It's a different KIND of work, but you still have work to do, and you still get in trouble if you don't do it.

I know from personal experience that you can get away with missing an assignment here or there. I missed lots of them and still had good grades. If you are failing, you either missed A LOT of assignments or you haven't learned the material. Plenty of people do well in school, so you'll have to forgive me if I don't believe it's as hard as you claim. Everyone goes to school, and we all know how much work it is, but we don't all fail and throw hissy fits.
