Frankly, I'm not sure what they use to age it. There's a rumor that the curing process ranges from fruits like ranges and lemons, to rotten meat and... in the worst cases although I think they stopped doing it, animal feces. That's why it's illegal and if the police finds your distillery home, you're pretty much fucked and jail-time is due.

Everclear really is actually pretty awesome. It doesn't really have a taste (well, besides alcohol), it's powerful, and, since it's pure grain, the hangover is not as bad and it mixes well. I have about a half a shot of it everyday in the form of Green Dragon (a cannabis tincture made using high-proof alcohol).

Sometimes. Anything high-proof will work. Everclear is illegal lots of places, including my home state. I myself will never take a flaming shot. The only time I ever saw anyone take one, he got serious burns on his face and lit the nearby curtains on fire.

You can put bad vodka through a Britta water filter thing three or four times and actually make it better, so I hear.

I keep telling you, you really need to try girly cocktails first. I've never met anyone who went straight from teetotal to "yum, straight hard liquor!" That's very definitely an acquired taste at best, while things like pina coladas or margaritas are just plain tasty.

Mmm, piña coladas! Or Pim's Cup, I love those, too. Gin and tonic, and a gin gimlet beats a martini out of the field.
