What is the point of life

Postby Underium » Sat Jan 01, 2011 11:21 pm

Simple question but the most complicated problem we face in our entire lifes. Some of you may have simple answers but i urge you to please look farther then the surface, What will this accomplish, and is this really the way you want to spend your one single life on earth, i mean after life ends the after life goes on forever, however in the after life there is nothing.

For those of you that dont know i am a avid atheist so dont go saying stuff about heaven or god here pelase because i will just laugh!

Really. If you are looking for some deeper meaning which makes you feel good about yourself and the world around you...join a church. Otherwise do what you got to do to survive and enjoy life.

I think the point of life is to leave the world better than you found it.

That said, humanity has been derailed since... Probably the Neolithic revolution or something.

To make yourself happy.

Technically this isn't the point of life, it's just the goal which naturally occurs as a result of biological functions. Life doesn't have a point, much like the sky doesn't have a point, or a rock doesn't have a point.

Do we even understand what the question is?

There isn't any, in my opinion.

*Gives an extremely disturbing glare*

Well, I think the point of life is to have fun. Having fun means, doing what you want, (in absolute compliance with the Ten Commandments, of course) and not being that serious about things. If there's something gone really bad, it isn't the end of the world. Because another day will always dawn, and if you think you're going to die just make the most of what you have.

*Continues giving disturbing glares*

All great movements are popular movements. They are the volcanic eruptions of human passions and emotions, stirred into activity by the ruthless Goddess of Distress or by the torch of the spoken word cast into the midst of the people. -- Adolf Hitler

The point of life is about 3.7 billion years ago somewhere in Earth's oceans. That is the point in space-time where life occurred.
Cool shit here, also here.

The reason there is no philosophy that has ever resolved our deepest questions, is because reality, and our existence, is trapped somewhere between the subjective and objective that is neither and both.

The problem with asking the meaning or point of life is it craves something objective while being fought and rationalized by the subjective.

It is easier to answer, what is the nature of life. The nature of life is ambivalence. Infinitely complex, infinitely simple, comforting and depressing ambivalence.

I've always heard it was any one of the following: to die, to reproduce (which has already been said I believe ;) ) or 42.

We humans cannot answer this question. If you ask one person their answer maybe completely different from another person. The best way to find out is to get to Heaven and ask God yourself.
