Tesla yes. But Edison? He and his liking for DC?

Anyway, doesn't look a wonderful idea to me. Too much costs - maybe it could be useful for some very limited applications, and in a short range... but I don't think it's a good idea to send MW through EM waves. Cables are way better: after all, power transmitted through waves decreases as r^(-2), while power over cables decreases as r^(-1).

Could they use this invention to raise Tesla from the dead so we could *really* start playing with electricity?

"We must construct additional pylons" ?

I indeed am not sure it is a good idea to add even more high-energy waves to our surroundings.

Why? Just because he was afraid of hair and obsessed with the Great Pigeon Conspiracy? He was also smart and right -- about electricity. The pigeon thing, I'm not sure about.

Tesla was a pure research guy. He never concerned himself much with pragmatic applications. That's why he let GE take over so many of his patents and died penniless. But the fact remains that Tesla's big experiments, which proved that what he was saying about how electricity worked was correct, may not have had non-laboratory applications, but their results most certainly could be broken down into practical and commercially viable applications, and many have been.

I am firmly of the opinion that he was correct so often specifically because he was crazy. Mad scientists are the best kind.
