NSG, do you play a character here?

Postby Nanatsu no Tsuki » Thu Jul 23, 2009 7:21 am

I was having a conversation with someone I know yesterday and we came upon the little debate on wether people on NSG play a character or in here they're as they are out of the site, in real life. It came up that it seems I play a character, the flirty one.

The truth is, I think this person was right in saying this because I am, put of NSG, not a flirty person. I am not a coquette like it seems I come across here. I think I seem to recall other posters mentioning that when they're on NS, they assume a characterization that has nothing to do with who they are when not in front of the computer, posting here.

So, NSG, do you play a character or are you yourself when you post in the forum?

I play this guy:

Venicilian: wow. Jesus hung around with everyone. boys, girls, rich, poor(mostly), sick, healthy, etc. in fact, i bet he even went up to gay people and tried to heal them so they would be straight.
The Parkus Empire: Being serious on NSG is like wearing a suit to a nude beach.
New Kereptica: Since power is changed energy over time, an increase in power would mean, in this case, an increase in energy. As energy is equivalent to mass and the density of the government is static, the volume of the government must increase.

I think I'm possibly slightly more rude, cynical and sarcastic, but then that's because I don't care about politeness so much on here.

no character here. just me. an opinionated curmudgeonly leftover from the 60's and 70's with opinions that don't seem to mesh with NSG at large.

or something to that effect.

the only "character" I play is in the RP sections of the forum, or on my home regions forum.

Rude in the sense that I skip the small talk and reassuring rhetoric a lot of the time, and try to just get straight to the point.

then that is not "rude" by most definitions. that is direct. "rude" is being direct while pointing out the poster you are responding to is concurrently an ass.

this. i used to care more about being nice to people with opinions i disagreed with, but then i gave up caring. so i guess i'm a bit more blunt on here. i'm also probably more confident and outspoken - IRL i tend to keep my political or other opinons to myself, unless i know people very well.

also, in real life, i'm a member of the Tory party. and i lick Margaret Thatcher's nuts.

I don't think you're rude at all. You're just more direct than most people. I have never seen you offend anyone.

Well, put it this way, when someone says something on here which I think is stupid, I won't shy away from saying that is 'retarded' or 'insanely nonsensical' or whatever. In the real world, I would more likely say something politer, like "I don't quite follow your reasoning" or something.

No, I don't. Pretty-much all that I post is my opinion. About the only difference is that I probably swear a less when away from the keyboard. I don't really get the point of pretending to be someone else.

I don't get it either, but I can understand that the anonimity afforded by the internet is a good excuse to act in ways that we wouldn't dare act in the real world. Some posters here do that, magnificently.

I will concede that pointing out deficiencies in the gene pool does sometimes have its own small rewards. I just happen to be a mostly polite person off the boards, and I am at an age where it just gets confusing to be something else online.

Devon Treznor. Emperor.

That's my primary NS RP character. For General, it's just me. Devon has no business here.

I play the character of a conservative here, rather than being liberal old me.

Though that's only my main character: When I'm logged in as Astrogratis or Nether Wiltshire I'm an evil Fascist dictator; When I'm logged in as Kalsiana, I'm a psychotic theocrat and when I'm logged in as Volkswar I'm a progressive marxist...

I thought the idea of 'playing your state' was pretty fundamental around here?

In the RP forums, yes. In General (a.k.a. NSG) it's much less common. Over here, we're (mostly) discussing real-world events and issues, rather than in-game ones, and nations usually don't come into it.
So no, not very fundamental at all.

In the RP forums, I have been many different characters of different races, genders, backgrounds, and personalities. My favourite is still Everqueen Aliria nos Elurin nos Dior nos Luthien nos Thingol of the Sindar Empire of Aelosia.

Regarding my personality in the GENERAL forums, I play a venezuelan female, near her thirties, when everyone knows I'm a cuban male, 62 years old, who loves cigars, good food, and wearing nothing but old shorts under my paunch.
My ratings in the top 100:
Aelosia is ranked 12th in the world for Lowest Unemployment Rates
Aelosia is ranked 12th in the world for Lowest Unemployment Rates
Aelosia is ranked 12th in the world for Largest Defense Forces
