okay, yeah some of the claims do seem a little far out, but most religions have those sort of claims that are far out there.
In history, belief, and other aspects.

Yeah and talked to them today while i was eating at their church.
Nice and friendly people really.
They were a bit taken back with me quoting Aristotle and Hume.
They are trying to figure out how to reconcile my sense of subjectivity with their view of truth.

Muravyets wrote:Well, I have never understood the need to retrofit a holy text to fit a new religious rule, as if "We do this because we're <fill in name of religion>" isn't good enough. Do they think no Mormons would adhere to the rule if it didn't come with the Jesus stamp of approval on it? Maybe so... As I said, it's not our non-Mormon business, but yeah, if one follows a rule that has what amounts to a made-up justification attached to it, one should not trot out that made-up justification to outsiders and expect them to buy into it. It says "wine" in the Bible story, not "grape juice." If Mormons want to rewrite it to read "grape juice" that's their business, but they're not going to sell that to anyone who isn't a Mormon.

something to do with the movement west in covered wagons, was the event.
Aristotle they overall liked. Wasn't so much of a question as just several quotes. Aristotle is argued to be a monotheist by many philosophers(or at least my current professor).
Hume they didn't like so much.

KiloMikeAlpha wrote:It can be argued that the "wine" was simply grape juice. I am not sure on that one either, but the argument is there. It still does not change the fact that the commandment is there now.
We are told the "Words of Wisdom" is structured so that even the weakest of saints can obey. Simply put, because these are addictive substances, for some people, even a drop of wine can be bad. So it is best to err on the side of caution and say that no amount is OK.

While that thought does turn my blood to ice just a bit, no. I was just hoping for some reports of amusing philosophical hijinks.
