Well, I have never understood the need to retrofit a holy text to fit a new religious rule, as if "We do this because we're <fill in name of religion>" isn't good enough. Do they think no Mormons would adhere to the rule if it didn't come with the Jesus stamp of approval on it? Maybe so... As I said, it's not our non-Mormon business, but yeah, if one follows a rule that has what amounts to a made-up justification attached to it, one should not trot out that made-up justification to outsiders and expect them to buy into it. It says "wine" in the Bible story, not "grape juice." If Mormons want to rewrite it to read "grape juice" that's their business, but they're not going to sell that to anyone who isn't a Mormon.

I have a serious question for the Mormons. Is it true that if I lead a good Mormon life, then when I die, I get to be a God with my own planet?

something to do with the movement west in covered wagons, was the event.
Aristotle they overall liked. Wasn't so much of a question as just several quotes. Aristotle is argued to be a monotheist by many philosophers(or at least my current professor).
Hume they didn't like so much.

KiloMikeAlpha wrote:It can be argued that the "wine" was simply grape juice. I am not sure on that one either, but the argument is there. It still does not change the fact that the commandment is there now.

We are told the "Words of Wisdom" is structured so that even the weakest of saints can obey. Simply put, because these are addictive substances, for some people, even a drop of wine can be bad. So it is best to err on the side of caution and say that no amount is OK.

I'm amazed at how flexible you can be when someone points out a contradiction, but how inflexible you are when you get self-righteous. You now have an answer for why I don't want religious groups trying to make their laws everyone's laws. Thank you.

Turned the other cheek lately? You are referring to Laws of Moses and the Levitical laws, which were rendered obsolete by a new law, Christ's Law. He said "Let any of you who are without sin cast the first stone".

There are some serious misinformation here. I am merely educating. If I get too contentious, please let me know and I will ratchet it back.

Well, you're dictating, not educating. Seems like your points are less educative and more defensive. It's fine to not let false accusations lie, but if you "educate" with misinformation, guesses and opinions, well...

I love how religious folks ask the non religious to pray.

If a dedicated and adamant virgin wanted to know more about sex and sexuality, would you advise them to fuck someone?

If I think that prayer is illogical and a waste of time (I don't, necessarily, but that's an altogether different kettle of sturgeon), anyone telling me to "pray about" something is really wasting their time.

Generally when people feed me i am not confrontational.
Also it is really hard to cause hijinks when they simply say read the book, pray and see if god tells you it is true.
It was so much more fun dealing with the baptist who tried to logically show me Christianity must be true.
