Mormon Missionaries.

Postby Greed and Death » Wed Jul 22, 2009 1:10 pm

Well long story short I was fixing things outside the apartment complex I live at. These two missionaries happen to come by and strike up a conversation. Near the end of which they offer to help. I got them to do about half my work for the day.

However, I also agreed to let them come over to my place Friday in the evening to talk to me about their religion.
I have decided why not have some fun with this, Those more knowledgeable about the church of latter day saints, please provide me information to make the conversation amusing.

an example of a amusing conversation wolf be plato's Euthyphro.

Venicilian: wow. Jesus hung around with everyone. boys, girls, rich, poor(mostly), sick, healthy, etc. in fact, i bet he even went up to gay people and tried to heal them so they would be straight.
The Parkus Empire: Being serious on NSG is like wearing a suit to a nude beach.
New Kereptica: Since power is changed energy over time, an increase in power would mean, in this case, an increase in energy. As energy is equivalent to mass and the density of the government is static, the volume of the government must increase.

For other posters, is it only a small percentage of Mormons that believe in odd things such as the Promised Land being in Arizona, among other small oddities?

at worst 2 hours of boring conversation was worth getting 4 hours of work out of them.
At best I make them have a crisis of faith.

Don't rag 'em too hard, they are harmless enough and just trying to do what they think is right. I simply explain my position to them politely and/or tell them I haven't got the time and they leave me alone. I live in BFE and I get Mormons and other missionaries around about once a month.

Man, what's with this helpful mormon thing that I never get?

I was walking down the street carrying a large bag of kitty litter and a Mormon missionary walks up to me, comments that it looks heavy and then proceeds to try and convert me while I walked with the bag without offering to carry it for me or anything. Then he puts a pamphlet in my bag (I bought cat food at the same time, it was in the bag while my arms were full of litter) and walks off when I get to my building.

You can point out to them that DNA analysis has proved their claims that Native Americans are actually from Israel wrong, and thus their entire "religion" is false (like all, but it's rare that one can be so easily falsified).

Life is a tragedy to those who feel, a comedy to those who think, and a musical to those who sing.

I am the very model of a Nation States General,
I am a holy terror to apologists Confederal,
When called upon to source a line, I give citations textual,
And argue about Palestine, and marriage homosexual!

You'd be surprised at what people will do if asked, you'd also be surprised at what people won't do it not asked.

I wish I could be bothered to spend the effort to search the old Jolt forums for my posts on Mormons and archaeology.

But for your immediate purposes, the following will do:

"But this is incredible! An entire white civilisation in Pre-Columbian North America. There must be loads of archaeological evidence for that, right?"

If they try and claim Central American pre-Columbian cities as their great lost civilisation, you shouldn't find it too hard to come up with something along the lines of "But what about the Aztecs?" or "but that's not who the archaeologists I know say built Tenochtitlan."

If they try and claim the mound cities of the American Midwest, instead try "But I thought all of the stone tools found there show they were built by neolithic Native Americans."

Hours of fun can be had.

didn't the mormons begin as a "doomsday cult" back in the 1840's, predicting that was when the world would end? not that up on mormon history, but i thought i had heard that at one time.

Perhaps. I don't tend to ask people to do something for me when I am perfectly capable of doing it myself though. I do think that if he was going to try to convert me to his religion, the least he could have done is offered to help. Then I might have been willing to stop and chat instead of continuing to walk at my normal pace because I didn't want to carry the kitty litter longer than necessary. It would have been in his interest to do so (especially since, if he wanted, he could have walked slower than I would have and this would have prolonged the conversation).
