Thanks a lot.

My thoughts on not ever having had cable boil down to this:

1. Hmm, I wish I could watch the Daily Show and the Colbert Report.

2. FUCKING SLOW INTERNET I HATE YOU. DAMN DIAL-UP TO HELL FOREVER.

3. Hmm, I vaguely wish I could see the occasional program on cable someone tells me is good.

Beyond that, it's not so bad. :p

Well, obviously the power to transmit images across vast distances is insignificant next to the power of the Force, :lol2:

MSNBC isn't biased to the left. It's biased toward money.

Faux News isn't "biased" toward the right. It is overtly and unashamedly right-wing, and has been for a very long time.

They don't. Larry Kudlow, Jim Cramer, and all the such are very successfull investors. They write the books and host the shows to generate some extra change on the side and provide a public service. Good investors = strong economy = more money for them.

They could also suggest on a show that a certain buy is good which in turn would raise the price of that stock, excellent for market manipulation.

You misunderstand.

MSNBC is biased toward making money for themselves. For profit. They aren't a "left wing" news outlet, they just really like making money.

And if you mean Jim Cramer, and if you are actually serious about liking his advice, then I've got a chunk of the True Cross I'd really love to sell you...totally fair price I swear...

I haven't done any day trading in quite a few years with the rising cost of law school taking a pretty penny. Putting my extra money away in an IRA till I finish up, might get back into trading after that though.

Frankly, they're all just coveting the Almighty DollarTM. If news from unabashed communists was what people started wanting, Fox News (and the rest of them, for that matter) would start fellating Marx so fast your heads (and mine) would snap right off from the spinning.

That doesn't make me distrust Billo or Olbermann any less.

Nah, it's okay, need to get the lungs cleared.

And I agree with Milks, the news networks have corporate bias more than anything else. Trust me, if something annoys the sponsors enough, you'll see their bias shift in no time at all.

Well, there was this study a while back, showing that Fox viewers were significantly more likely to hold misperceptions about the war in Iraq.

And there was this study, which showed that Daily Show viewers were significantly better informed than Fox News viewers.

The real problem with Fox is that it runs roughshod over the division between news and commentary. MSNBC might have commentators with the bloviating asshole shtick, but their straightforward reporting is less affected by ideology than Fox.

But in my opinion, this debate obscures the real problem, which is that most media in America is exceptionally poor, and that these 24-hour news networks sacrifice depth for immediacy.

The real problem is that we are getting opinionated news these days, The Hannity's, O'Reily's, Olbermann's, of the world are free to spin it as they see fit, manipulate facts and deliver half truths.

The media would be in much better shape if news was like it was during the Cronkite era.

^^ Viewers of the Daily Show, and Colbert Report have the highest political competency.

O'Reilly, meanwhile, tells truths that the DLM would rather not have brought to light. Those who characterize him as a "liar" have been regularly exposed as frauds, shams and liars themselves.

It never ceases to amuse me how threatened lefties feel by Fox News. They're just terrified that some point of view other than the far-left rubbish that the DLM spews on a daily basis might actually get a hearing. They also resent the huge audience that FNC has. They haven't reconciled themselves to the fact that they have lost the power to control the distribution of information.

Wow. So there's not only a DLM which continues to spew stuff on a daily basis, but yet they've also lost the ability to control the distribution of information?

Which is it, Mitanni? You might be able to fool simpletons with doublethink, but it's kind of obvious to anyone who can actually read and possesses a level of reading comprehension.

I've seen a great deal more of FOX than MSNBC, however, largely because my grandfather tended to leave it on in the background for hours on end, so I couldn't really help hearing a good deal of it when I visited my grandparents every week or two. Its bias was painfully, ridiculously, makes-me-want-to-throw-things-at-the-TV obvious, and so I really can't imagine MSNBC being more biased unless its commentators typically open every news segment with, "We want Republicans to DIE!" It might manage equally biased, though, and if I'd seen more than about ten minutes of MSNBC in my life, I'd have an opinion on whether or not that's the case. :p

It's not. I mean, it's awful at times--Keith Olberman's "Worst in the world" segment comes to mind :palm: --but it's definitely not at the level of Fox News. After all, Keith Olbermann may be annoying, but at least he understands civil rights.
