And once again, the common misunderstanding of the word "theory." In science, unlike everyday life, "theory" does not mean "something I just thought of while sitting on the can" or "hey, what if ...?" A theory in science is an explanation of facts. Evolution itself is a fact. We see it happen all the time and we see that it has happened in the past from evidence in fossils and in biology. The "theory of evolution" is the explanation of those facts.

The difference between scientists and theologists pretending to be scientists is that scientists say, "Here are some facts, what conclusions can we draw from them?" but the others say, "Here are our conclusions, can we make any facts support them?" This kind of goes back to the thread on the Bible where Gagatron presented me with a Christian apologist site that purported to show the incredible scientific facts in the Bible, written millennia before being "discovered" by science. It was all smoke and mirrors.

Okay, so Big Bang. I'm not sure how many people saw the big bang, and I can't imagine God, in between prophetising and being a pillar of fire, suddenly turning round and asking if anyone wanted to hear his theories on how the world began. We're talking about a world where there were many gods, all competing for people's attention - or you could exchange 'gods' for 'priests' - and people hadn't heard of the big Y. Then, a long while later, Abram turned up. The stories before this sort of time are very much the generic creation myths that surround the Mediteranian and beyond.
