Of course my attitude is colored by the fact that I don't really hear gay tolerant Christians standing up to the anti-gay Christians all the time

I do all the time, I know others that do too. I do realize that we are in the minority, but we are here. My church will perform same sex marriages even though the state says that they cannot be married. We do not believe that the state sanctifies marriages, God does.

Some conservative christians even say that doesn't refer to homosexuality, but the first 2 with "temple prostitutes" and the third one of any sex that isn't vaginal (ie, anal, oral and masturbation).

Well, Christianity on a whole has had a rather bad record of doing rather hateful thing for the majority of its existence as a religion. And the Bible also does advocate, through the OT mainly but also to a lesser extent in the NT, dangerous ideals that shouldn't be seen as good things.
